Just Once
AN: This is my first Final Fantasy 3 story.
Ingus stretched before he turned the wheel to the left a little. Tonight was his turn to stand guard and watch over the ship. Him and the other two boys were switching out so no one was staying up for a couple nights at a time. He rubbed the back of his neck before he sighed. He thought that this job would get easier, but it wasn't and it may never get any easier. That when heard a deep sigh come from behind him; he peeked over his shoulder before he turned to face Refia. "What are you doing up?" He asked.
"I couldn't sleep." She stated.
He then watched as she walked up the steps and stood by him.
"Why don't you boys let me help with this job?" She asked as she looked out the big windows.
"Because…" He looked away from her.
"Don't you dare say it's because I'm a girl."
"It's not that. It's just that we voted that it would be best if you got your rest. You know, to help us fight and help care for wounds."
She rolled her eyes. "You boys can care for wounds too."
"But not as well as you can."
Again she rolled her eyes before she studied the wheel. "…Can I try?"
Ingus looked at her then at the wheel. "Can you handle it?"
A sly smile grew on her face as she stepped up to the wheel. "I think I can." She placed both hands on the wheel and looked forward.
"Make sure you're keeping us leveled."
"Leveled?" She questioned.
"Flat." He said as he walked over to her. "Need any help?"
"No."
But he noticed that she wasn't on coarse anymore, because she was turning the wheel when she didn't need to. He then fixed it but he didn't notice that he placed his hand over her hand until she looked up at him. "Ingus."
He then looked down at their hands and pulled his away. "Sorry."
She then looked him in the eye. "Ingus…"
"Refia, don't." He knew all too well what she was thinking, but he could do it. "We really-"
She placed a finger over his lips. "You talk too much." She wrapped his arms around her waist before she turned back to the wheel. "Just help me steer."
A smile grew on his face as he did as she said; he grabbed her hands and guided them to the right a little bit before he rubbed her arms. "Like that?"
"Just like that." She smiled as he guided their hands to the left.
