Dimentio's past was complex and dark, and he preferred not to think about it. But sometimes, he lay on his bed and closed his eyes and his mind would bring him back to the time when his name was not yet Dimentio.
Dimentio, first named Ed, grew up in a kingdom whose ruler was corrupt and selfish. The king's name was Garm, and he made most of his subjects servants and gave them little pay.
Ed's father and mother were servants of the king, thus he was one too. His father was a magician and his mother a fortune teller. Ed learned all sorts of magic from his father and soon became King Garm's jester at the age of ten.
King Garm treated Ed like a circus rat. The king ordered his jester around when he was bored. "Jester, amuse me!" he'd command.
Ed had never liked the king, but he did as he was told, albeit grudgingly. He'd lay awake at night in his family's filthy quarters inside the palace muttering about how he hated King Garm. His parents urged him not to do anything about it, for they feared Ed would be killed.
Years passed, and the king grew crueller still. When he was only 14, Ed's father died from exhaustion due to the king. The boy was heartbroken and angry. He comforted his poor mother every night. A year later, his mom died, also because of the king. Ed snapped.
"Jester, amuse me! Unless you'd like the same fate your dearest mother and father had!" the king taunted the next day.
All of Ed's feelings he had been holding back bubbled up inside him and burst. He had had enough. His strings broke, and the king's little jester-hat-wearing entertainer changed into a demon.
"Fuck you," Ed whispered. He snapped his fingers. His skin turned half black and half white, and he had a corresponding mask along with purple and yellow jester clothes.
"Like a caterpillar turning into a butterfly, a pawn becomes a king," Ed said lightly, lips curling up into a demented smile.
He turned to face the king and shot a bolt of magic at him, ending his life.
"Ahahahahaha," Ed laughed maniacally, covered in the king's blood. "Master of dimensions... Pleaser of Crowds, I am Dimentio!" he exclaimed.
