Gone

He didn't know that it would come to an end like this.

He closes his eyes tightly, as if that would make the pain go away. He staggers, trying to make his lips form words, but they don't. They can't - they wouldn't.

Slowly, he opens his eyes, and sees the faint outline of the other campers – his friends – ceaselessly fighting. They know that he is dying. But they cannot stop this battle – not until someone comes out victorious.

He smiles, because he knows that they are going to win; that makes him happy, that this thought is going to be the last one on his mind.

Soundlessly, he falls, as if it were in slow motion.

With one last breath, Nico di Angelo departs from the world.


In my viewpoint, Nico is dying in an attempt to protect the campers – namely, his closer friends, but interpret it however you wish. This 10-Sentence drabble was for LionexssAmaya's 10-Sentence Challenge from Veritaville.
