He was on his back with his a pillow clutched in his arms. He sighed.

Now he was on his side with his knees tucked up to his chin, the pillow tucked between those knees. He sighed.

Onto his back again, arms and legs splayed, pillow fallen, lost on the floor.

His eyes were closed but he could feel the moonlight burning behind his eyelids.

He didn't want to shut the blinds though. When he could see the sky, the stars, that moon shining so bright it may well be made of neon, he felt a little bit of comfort.

Maybe somewhere he was looking up too. That was the only connection Naruto had with him.

It also filled him with a profound sadness. He didn't have a word for it. But that hot scratchiness in his chest. The deep pit in his stomach that felt full and empty at the same time, like he'd missed a step. The way his mind rushed without any real, tangible thoughts. And the way he couldn't lay still, as if he had to be up, anywhere, doing anything, just as long as he didn't stay here.

Yeah, he didn't have a word for that. But it was dark and it was consuming.

Naruto opened his eyes up and let out the deep breath he didn't realize he'd been holding.

He unclenched his jaw and unclentched his fists.

He sat up sudeenly, like a snake striking, snatched the pillow from the floor and clentched his fists once more to deliver it a few swift, punishing strikes. Tossed it back on the floor.

He crawled across his bed and kneeled, resting his arms on the window ledge.

Stuck his head out the window and looked up to the lonely neon moon.

Naruto hoped Sasuke was somewhere he could see it too.

Feel the fresh air and the scent of grass and earth.

Just not underground.

He was filled with that nameless emotion as he fell back onto his bed.

It was probably going to be another sleepless night.

At least he'd finally stopped crying.
