"Okay, I gotta ask." Shaw groaned peeking up under her lashes as she paused in her ritual clean of her gun.

The thing had become something of an adorable yet annoyingly curious sight whoever she caught the hacker doing it.

And today she was going to find out why.

Root looked up in confusion "What's wrong Sweetie?" she wondered as she looked over the top of the computer she'd been typing away at off and on for the last hour.

"Why do you do that?" Shaw asked pointing with her disassembled gun to the half-eaten apple in the computer nerd's free hand. "I wanted to disprove the old legend about how an apple a day keeps a Doctor away thing." Root answered casually bringing the deep red fruit back to her lips for another taste.

Shaw rolled her eyes at the comment dropping her chair back on all four of its legs. "It's not the apples separating us." The ex-marine corrected harshly her low whispered words seeming to echo in the quiet of the cozy kitchen. "I meant why start at the bottom and work up." Shaw hurried on snapping a fresh magazine into her gun then reached for her second.

Root's eye's widened at the question and Shaw could tell by the smile spreading across her lips as the sociopath started disassembling the weapon that she'd just handed the nerdy yet reformed killer some juicy ammunition for a bedroom-related pun.

"Because Sameen, when an apple is bitten from the sides then a good third or so is left uneaten." Root explained making the knowledge she was saying even sexier in Shaw's mind anyway by the thick black framed glasses sliding down her nose. It also helped that Root was wearing an oversized shirt so Shaw was able to see down the front as her nerd pushed the computer back a bit in favor of leaning across the table toward her. "So, then this way just leaves the seeds uneaten." Root continued even when she knew that the sociopath wasn't really listening anymore.

"And you know how much I hate to leave any part of a wet core uneaten," Root smiled watching while Shaw was busy tracking the drop of apple juice trickling down Root's lip from her last bite. "Want a taste?" Root prompted holding out the last bit of the fruit toward her.

Shaw's jaw flexed and Root could easily tell without the Machine whispering to her that Shaw was more than a little aroused. But Shaw being Shaw she pushed her feeling away and shook her head. "No strenuous activities remember?" she reminded her harshly but the comment seemed to be more to herself than to Root.

"Aww come on Sam now is not the time for you to play doctor…unless…" Root broke off when Shaw rolled her eyes and went back to cleaning her weapon."Nope."

Root sighed even louder than before pushing her glasses back up onto her nose while playfully blowing a stray strand of hair out of her eyes. "Don't be cute nerd." Shaw grumbled without taking her eyes away from her gun. "I didn't think you cared Shaw." Root purred sliding her computer back into place in front of her.

The sociopath inhaled sharply through her nose in answer her dark eyes hardening at the loss of her view of her hacker's chest. Not that she'd admit it out loud but going by the smug little smirk pulling at the corner of Root's lips she already knew as she picked the apple back up again.

It didn't help Shaw's case that she could feet Root's foot sliding teasingly up and down her leg under the table.
