After the storm comes the spring?
First Decision
It was quiet. Too quiet. As if her surroundings were dead. It was empty. Too empty. As if her surroundings were swallowed by nothingness. She laid there in that pure white but uncomfortable and cold bed and waited for those days to end. It was just too boring. She'd rather go out again and play with her comrades. She knew why she was there but she felt really well now after a few days of rest. Even though the others still worried about her condition she really felt fine. It was rather the atmosphere and place that would make her feel worse than her injuries.
"Geez..." She sighed and turned her body so that she could look out of the window. "I wish I could just go to University again." She mumbled while staring into the broad sky in front of her. It was autumn and the new semester has already started. Everyone else might be in their lessons or chilling in their free time with their friends but only she was tied to this bed and this room. She slowly closed her eyes and hoped she could sleep away some time. But by the time she was almost asleep someone knocked on the door of her room. "Yes?" She softly shouted as she sat up fully awake again and awaited to see who might have come to visit her. Could it be Kyoko with Hana or Chrome with Lambo and I-Pin? She asked herself when she stared at the door wanting to have the ability to look through it. As it slowly opened the first thing that caught her eye was the silver hair of a certain self-proclaimed right-hand-man.
"Hey, stu..." He started to greet her with her usual nick name but stopped in the middle of saying it. "Hi!" The storm guardian Gokudera Hayato greeted her and stepped in to take a seat on the chair beside her bed after he put a bouquet of her favorite flowers in a vase which was probably given to him by a nurse. "How are you feeling?" He asked while he took an apple from her fruits basket and peeled it with a knife that was still on her desk with the leftovers from her meal.
At first she was too shocked from what she saw that she wasn't able to move an inch or even say a word. It's a first that Gokudera visited her alone without the others and it seems that he voluntarily did it without anyone telling him to since his mood wasn't as bad as it usually was. Above all he stopped in the middle of using his favorite way to address her and didn't address her at all which made her wonder if he even knew her name. Also he brought her favorite flowers fresh from a florists shop and had them nicely wrapped in cute paper. Furthermore he is preparing apple in bunny shape for her. So she asked herself. What the hell is going on? Is that really Gokudera Hayato? A shiver ran down her spine as she realized that he wasn't watching her with the usual annoyed and pissed off face but seriously worried and thoughtful. Something was definitely off but first she had to observe the situation more to come to a clear conclusion. Right! Somehow it was like playing a detective or whatever. That might chase away her boredom. Good, let's see. "I'm really fine now! I don't feel any pain anymore and I feel like I could run around for miles. The only thing that kills me is that it's so damn boring here." She answered him in her usual cheerfulness and smiled.
"I see..." He sighed in relief and held a plate with bunny shaped apple pieces towards her. She gladly took them with a thank you and enjoyed the sweet taste of the red fruit. "I'm glad to see you so cheerful." He smiled slightly and also took a piece of the bunny apple for himself to eat it.
"I'm stupid woman after all, and stupid people are always cheerful." Haru said to lighten up the mood. The aura around him felt really heavy and gloomy. She felt as if there were dark clouds hollowing over him the whole time. Though he's often so despicable she didn't want to see him so depressed.
"Because they are so carefree." He chuckled with a touch of irony in his voice. He looked at her for a while with an expression in his eyes that Haru couldn't describe at all. They were somehow sad and guilty. Thoughtful but also empty. Expressionless and emotional. Weird. She thought it was totally bizarre. "You're actually not stupid it all." What the hell is going on?! Seriously! That was not Gokudera Hayato! No way! After he said that she was absolutely sure. It was just someone who looked like him. Some alien or ghost had taken advantage of his body. Or he was seriously disturbed and depressed about what happened. Either way could be right, maybe. The first one pleased her more. But how could she find the right solution.
"Of course. I always told you that I'm not stupid!" She just acted normally to await what happens next.
"You sure did!" He chuckled again so fakedly. She could realize that something was off. Should she just ask him straight and honest like she always did or would it be the best to wait until he was ready to tell her himself? She didn't know which would be the best decision but she wanted to know what lied there behind that mask.
"Hey Gokudera... Wha-" She tried to start but she was suddenly interrupted by the opening of the door.
"Sorry to disturb you." The nurse said as she came in and walked towards them. "I have to collect the leftovers and the dishes." She said with the monotone nurse smile in her face.
"Here." Gokudera stood up and took the tray to give it to her.
"Oh my, thank you." She said and blushed when she saw how handsome he actually was close-up.
"I should be the one thanking you." He said and smiled politely making the nurse become nervous. "I'm grateful of you for taking care of Miura-san." Those words shocked Haru so much that she turned to stone. Was he for real? He was grateful? Miura-san? Taking care? She asked herself and continued to observe him. He might really be some kind of alien or an Uma! Yeah, that might be it. Uma! It's just an Uma that took his form. That might be the most logical answer! Well, done detective Haru.
"No, you shouldn't be it's my job after all." The nurse giggled and lightly punched his shoulder. "I'll be going then. I don't want to disturb you two lovebirds anymore. If I were to stay here any longer I might snatch him away from you, Miura-san." Her giggling got louder and she turned around to leave the room.
"That's impossible." Gokudera said politely and sat down again.
"I see." She said as she arrived by the door. "Miura-san, don't push yourself too hard to recover soon. Call me when you need anything. See ya." With those words she left those two alone and they fell into silence for a while. Why? Haru thought. Why didn't he deny that they were together? Was the person next to her really storm guardian Gokudera Hayato self-proclaimed right hand man of Vongola tenth?! Where was his aggressiveness? His annoyed glanced and his irritated 'ches' and his all-time favorite words stupid woman. His badass attitude and messy clothes. They were all gone. Haru couldn't believe what she was seeing. Was that real? The Hayato in front of her sat straight with some kind of serious and strict atmosphere around him. His eyes seemed so thoughtful and he didn't even reek one bit of cigarette. What has happened to him the time she was in hospital? The more she thought about it the more it seemed legit that this person might really be an Uma.
"Hey Gokudera." Haru broke the silence. First things first. She finally need to get some information out of him. Either way she wouldn't understand what he was thinking. "Why didn't you clear up that misunderstanding of hers?"
"You could've also done it." He dodged that question and grinned slyly at her.
"I was too shocked by your good boy act." Haru countered and giggled.
"Is that so?" He just said back to being monotonous. He began averting her eyes. His cheeks have a faint shade of cherry on them and the space between his eyebrows wrinkled. Seems like she hit a good spot and could shake up the facade he has built for a little.
"Yeah, it is." She claimed and poked his forehead forcing him to meet her eyes again. "I wonder if we really look like a couple to others." She mumbled trying to read his thoughts from his eyes and his expressions. But it seemed kinda useless. She couldn't read other's minds after all and especially him because he was a thick wall of steel she couldn't get through.
"Seems like that..." He just answered and averted her eyes again.
"Hmm..." Weird. When he first came in here he seemed to be so full of self-confidence and looked straight at her all the time but somehow he turned to be kind of timid that it even seemed cute to her. She found herself lucky to be able to see so many sides of him other than his tough boy act. It was really enjoyable no matter which Hayato she was with.
"How is your injury?" He suddenly asked hesitantly.
"It's almost all healed, no worries!" She answered with all her cheerfulness. She didn't want him to feel any worse than he already did. But without thinking she blurted out what might worry him after all. "Though the doctor said it's very likely that it will leave a scar but that's no problem at all. Since it's on my forehead I can always hide it with my bangs."
"But what if you can't get married because of it?" He asked with a serious voice. The space between his eyes was even more wrinkled now and he glanced directly with a fierce look in his eyes into hers.
"We aren't in that kind of era anymore." She laughed it off and patted his head hardly. What was he getting so serious for? He never really cared for her so much and now it seems like his personality turned 180 degrees each minute. She was really grateful that he worried so much about her and looked so much concerned about this. But he didn't have to feel guilty, responsible or anything else. It was okay for her. It was her own choice. "There will be someone who will take the person which I am no matter what scar I have on my face." She said confidently. Her patting got gentler as well as her expression and voice. "Someone whom I will love super much and who will love me even more." She giggled with her cheeks slightly red. Her hands lifted from his head to his shoulders. "There's nothing for you to worry about." She whispered in a very kind and calming voice which softened his stiff expression.
"Haru..." He whispered and paused for a while. Suddenly he gripped the wrist of her arm that lied on his shoulders pulling her a little closer. Even though his expression got softer she could clearly see that he was still very serious. His eyes were furious but at the same time gentle. He slightly bit his lips as if he was still hesitating to say the things that were on his mind. But after a few seconds of silence he slowly opened his mouth and yelled. "I have something to declare to you!"
