YEAR: Unknown.

The skies screamed furiously with thunder while the world of the dead blossomed at the birth of Hadronia. It was never meant to happen. He knew it was forbidden and yet his kingdom cleared in colors for a while at least. However, the clouds darkened and despite him not being able to see it, he could hear the thunder cracking and the lightning nearing. So he did the only thing he saw was best for his daughter: he travelled to the paradise island and begged for queen Hippolyta to take her in as her own. She was reluctant at first and gazed at the child with shame and disgust.

"That does not belong here. Neither do you." Hippolyta spat.

"She needs a home, Hippolyta. He will kill her and we both know it. I'm begging you." He pleaded and stepped closer to her, holding his daughter carefully. The sight of an actual baby softened Hippolyta a tad. Being on an island with women who stay in the same age for eternity makes you forget how it felt to see or hold a child.

"If I do this, you are not to visit her. I will raise her my way, train her and take care of her. But she can never know who her father is, the same way Diana doesn't know that Zeus is hers. Promise me that, Hades."

"I promise. Just please, take her in."

"The same thing goes for her mother. If Eris ever steps foot here–"

"She won't."

"Good. What's her name?" Hippolyta softly grabbed the child and held her against her chest. Hades smiled at the sight.

"Hadronia."

"A beautiful name." Hippolyta offered and nodded at him. Hades exhaled in relief knowing that his child would be taken care of and disappeared in a cloud of black smoke. "Hm. What to do with you."

The amazon queen only shared the existance of Hadronia with her sister, Antiope. Diana lived with the rest of the amazons since she was the queen's daughter while Hippolyta had built a secluded area for Hadronia to grow up in.

"Why can't I leave? I feel so alone here." Hadronia had complained once when she was growing tired of being the only one there.

"We're the only ones on this island, Hadronia. And the world outside this island is a cruel and dark place. If you wish to explore it one day, you may do so. But not now, you're still young." Hippolyta lied while she kept watch on her. "Now get ready, it's time for training."

Hadronia was happy to train. It was the best part of her day and truthfully, she enjoyed Antiope's presence more than Hippolyta's. The queen could never bring herself to tell Hadronia the harsh truth and she would never admit that she still found her as a disgrace for being the child of not only Hades but Eris as well, the goddess of discord. Hadronia was bound to cause chaos and Hippolyta feared that day.

"Are you ready, child?" Antiope mused while she spun her sword casually.

"I'm always ready." Hadronia smirked and gripped hers. Antiope dashed cautiously and the two and Hadronia worked on her defensives. Her body could withstand hard hits so Antiope was never really shy and Hadronia was thankful for that since it helped her learn faster and better. At one point, she managed to crouch down and swiftly kicked Antiope down on her back. Hadronia flipped her ponytail behind her shoulders and hovered over her trainer.

Before she could react, Antiope had lifted her leg, wrapped it around Hadronia's stomach and forced her down on the ground. She then stood up with her sword against Hadronia's throat and her foot against her leg. Hadronia groaned and then accepted Antiope's hand in help to stand up.

"Never let your guard down and don't stand above your opponent without being able to stop her counter attacks." Antiope taught and rested her sword against the ground.

"Why are we even training when there's nothing to defend ourselves from? We're the only ones here on this island! And Hippolyta is always quick to make sure that I'm not leaving this island until she thinks I'm ready, which will probably never happen. There's an entire world outside this place." Hadronia snapped and pointed at the ocean with her weapon. "I feel so suffocated here, Antiope. Which I know is strange since I'm on an island but I feel so out of place. This isn't where I want to be."

"It's for your best, Hadronia." Antiope sighed and her stomach clenched every time she had to hide the truth from her or lie. "We are blessed with this paradise. The world outside is dark and cruel."

"But why? I've been here for years and I've barely lived. I've only met two people in my entire life and I'm getting sick of the same environment all the time. And I know you two are hiding something from me. Hippolyta can't look at me for longer than a minute and if she does, it's with disgust and shame. You pity me for some reason and it makes me so angry that you two are dishonest with me."

Antiope's eyes flickered to the spot of flowers beside them and sucked in a sharp breath when they lowered and turned darker. Hadronia gazed at her with clenched teeth and her eyes that were usually bright blue lost its color by the second. Most teenage girls went through puberty — Hadronia went through activating her celestial powers.

"It's because you're different." Antiope stated calmly. "You're not like us. Hippolyta may have raised you but she is not your mother. It is not my place to tell you of your parents. I promised Hippolyta I would let her tell you when she thought appropriet."

"That's bullshit." Hadronia spat, taking her by surprise. "I deserve to know who my parents are and where I come from. Just look at those flowers." She chuckled without humor, nodding toward where Antiope had thought she didn't notice. "I cause that! I've done it before and no one explains how I do it. It scares me but I have to deal with it alone because you two refuse to let me know who I am."

"You're right, you deserve to know. Your–"

"What's going on here?" Hippolyta interrupted while she approached them. Hadronia sighed, placed her sword in the ground and left their training spot. Hippolyta looked at Antiope for answers but the queen's sister merely grabbed the weapons and left as well. "Hadronia!"

Hadronia entered her small cottage-like home and lay down on the bed with her arms crossed against her face. Even though Hippolyta had never been very maternal, she always thought that she was her mother. Knowing she wasn't only infuriated her even more. All she wanted to do at the moment was to disappear and leave the stupid island for good.

"Hadronia! You can't just storm away like that and expect me to–" Hippolyta entered her room but stopped dead in her tracks. With a frown on her face, Hadronia slowly sat up and watched as the queen scanned the room with worried eyes. "Hadronia? This is no time to play hide and seek. Please, just let me talk to you."

Hadronia waved her hand in confusion and stood up. She couldn't understand why Hippolyta was acting like she wasn't even there until she realized that her hand wasn't visibly waving in front of her. Looking down at herself, she gaped as her entire body and armor blended in with her surroundings. Carefully, she passed Hippolyta and sneaked out through the open door so that she could run away from the area, literally smashing through the big wall of bushes that isolated her from the rest of the island. That's when she was finally faced with the truth.

On the other side, a huge field was occupied by other women combat training. Some were sat on horses on the hill top watching and some were standing to get a closer look at a dark haired girl training with Antiope. Her hair was made into a long braid on her back and she wore soft golden armor. While most of the women looked grown up, the one fighting Antiope only seemed a few years older than Hadronia.

Suddenly, the girl stopped training and turned her focus to Hadronia, as did the others slowly. Hadronia's usually blonde hair transformers to dark brown in a smooth way. That was another thing her body did without her knowing why. Antiope froze and she didn't know exactly what to do. This was bound to happen at some point, she had just hoped it'd be further into the future when Hadronia had fully grown.

"Who is that?"

"She just... appeared out of thin air."

"Hadronia..." Antiope took a step closer and dropped her weapon to the ground.

"Oh no." Hippolyta whispered from behind them and gulped as Hadronia turned around and shook her head slowly.

"You lied to me. How could you do that?" Hadronia didn't yell but somehow her calm voice sent chills down Hippolyta's spine. "You made me believe we were alone for all these years. I can't even look at you."

Hadronia ran off again with wet eyes and stopped by the ocean shore. She yearned so badly to just jump in and swim to another place, no matter how far it was. Anything was better than to stay here.

"Your parents." Antiope's voice broke the comfortable silence. "They're Hades and Eris."

"Hades as in the god of the underworld?" Hadronia frowned and folded her arms together. If that was in fact true, she could start to see proof of that and reasons as to why she can do what they couldn't.

"Yes, and Eris as in the goddess of discord. That's why Hippolyta wouldn't let you interact with the rest of us amazons. She was afraid you would act out and hurt someone and aside from that, Hades wasn't exactly her personal favorite." She joined her side and watched the water.

"Was?"

"He's dead. Ares killed all the gods years ago. I'm sorry. I don't know about your mother but I doubt she even remembers you." She murmured and for the first time didn't look at her with pity in her eyes while thinking of her past.

Hadronia met her gaze and her shoulders relaxed a bit. She blinked away a few tears and then lifted the bottom of her dark hair that slowly turned blonde again. Antiope frowned and put her hands on her hips.

"Yeah, it does that sometimes." Hadronia answered her mental question. "I don't know why though."

"I've never seen it before."

"I do have a theory but it's a long shot. I think that... when I'm happy, it's bright and blonde but when I'm angry or sad it turns dark. But I'm not sure."

"Interesting." Antiope mused and carefully touched her hair for a second. Hadronia looked down for a moment before she inhaled deeply and asked the one question that nagged her the most.

"Why did Hades leave me here?"

"Truthfully, I don't know. Hippolyta never told me. She wanted to keep you a secret and that meant keeping as much from me as possible. Hades may be a pain sometimes but I doubt he left you here if he had another choice. Out of the gods, he might have been the one who cared about family most. Persephone did genuinely love him."

"But yet he left me here with a woman who can barely look at me. I've been so alone all my life while I could've been surrounded by other warriors here. How could you lie to my face for so long? And who was that girl you were training? She looked so young too."

"It pained me to lie to you, Hadronia. Trust me on that. Her name is Diana and much like you, she's a child of a god as well. But she doesn't know it, at least not the whole truth. She's Hippolyta's real daughter."

"Which god?" She asked sternly and looked at Antiope with a cold face.

"Zeus."

"Is that why she's accepted by you? Why everyone on this island knows her? Because she's the daughter of the mightiest god? And because Hippolyta's her biological mom? This isn't fair."

"It isn't." Antiope agreed and looked over at the ocean. "If you were to just... disappear, I wouldn't know about it."

"What?" Hadronia frowned and turned her head to look at her. A small smile played on Antiope's lips. "You'd let me leave?"

"You're a grown woman, Hadronia. If you wish to leave, that is up to you. I understand if you don't want to stay here. Your father possesed the power to shadow travel. It means he could render with the shadows of the world and move through them. It makes you almost invisible. I believe you've inherited that, as well as his other qualities. But you should hurry before Hippolyta finds us. Just try to feel the shadows around you and think where you want to go."

"Thank you." Hadronia whispered and pursed her lips. Antiope cupped her face and placed a long kiss on her forehead.

"Be careful out there. The world and its people are dangerous, Hadronia." Antiope said quietly before she let go.

Hadronia looked up at the cloudless sky and groaned to herself. No clouds, no shadows. Then she looked down at the sand and narrowed her eyes at her own shadow, trying to remember that feeling of longing to just... disappear. Judging by the smile on Antiope's face, she succeeded. So she moved toward the ocean and laughed when she quite literally hovered above it, jumping up to reach the sky. Then she passed the invisible boarder between the outside world and Themyscira and her life would begin all over again.
