And Going
A/N: Just playing on the Sakura-fangirl we all know. Merry Christmas!
Disclaimer: Don't own.
----------------------------------------------------
(She remembers the rainy days and the dimly lit nights, the soaked sheets and the leaky faucets, and she smiles.)
"Sakura?"
"Hmm?" She snaps back into reality, and she knows it's just wishful thinking because she was never good enough for all of –this- and all of –that-.
"Let's go."
"To where?"
(She is too young and she wants to go on like this forever, staring at the great expanse of cerulean blue sky and its puff ball clouds, and she grins.)
"To Sasuke."
And that's all it takes for her to shake her head sharply and bite in the left side of her cheek, her right side already half-obscured by a stream of candy pink hair.
"Come on, Sakura; it'll be fine."
(And she hopes to god everything is fine because if it weren't, then Naruto wouldn't be wheedling her like this when she has so much to do and oh god, why can't Ino just pop up now instead of yesterday when she and Sasuke were so close to having an un-awkward moment?)
She sighs.
"Hey, did anything happen between you guys?"
(She delights in Naruto's naivete and somehow wishes she had hers back.)
"Absolutely nothing at all."
"Are you sure?"
"Yes, Naruto."
"Positive?"
"Yes."
"Sakura, you're lying."
"No, I'm not."
Sometimes, she wished he were a little less perceptive.
She frowns and wonders if it is all due to the fact that Naruto has always been so close to Sasuke.
She groans, and she concludes that it is definitely not healthy for two –energetic- boys like them to spend so much time together.
"Sakura, what's that funny look in your eye?"
She twitches imperceptibly and wonders what else the two boys would be doing together given the amount of time they are together everyday.
(And though she has an inner fangirl, Sakura usually –does- like to keep it a secret; otherwise, how else would she go through everyday without a spontaneous nosebleed or two whenever Sasuke just 'decides' to drop by?)
"Sakura, don't look at me that way. Sasuke and I are definitely not doing the nasty, if that's what you're thinking."
She blushes, because secretly, her inner fangirl has a heart attack because who doesn't want to watch these two together?
She pauses.
Okay, not everyone.
(And this is why she keeps her inner fangirl under wraps, she decides, and she looks up at that blue, blue sky again and takes in a lungful of sweet fresh air.)
"Sakura, breathing like that won't make you stop blushing. I'm not that stupid."
She finally regains her dignity and speaks rather rapidly-sharply.
"Naruto, please don't go blowing this all out of proportion; I was just merely…"
"…undressing Sasuke with your eyes closed?"
"…reviewing standard medical procedures just in case you and Sasuke started something again, Naruto," Sakura cut in pointedly.
"Hey, last week was nothing, Sakura, I swear on everything holy. We were just fooling around until Sasuke decided to shove his –"
(She giggles at Naruto's apparent frustration and wish it wasn't as painfully obvious to her as it was to them.)
"Naruto, I understand. Just…don't elaborate, okay?"
"Okay, now can we get Sasuke? The sun's going to melt all of this snow, and you know what happens to snow when it melts!"
"Water, Naruto. It turns to water."
"Right, which is why we have to get this sled up that hill and carry the Uchiha's ass over here so we can actually have a Christmas moment."
(And yet, she knows that they're a team; they're Team Seven and nothing will change that, not even Naruto's naivete, her inner fangirl, or Sasuke's impulses)
"Let's go, Sakura!"
She sees Naruto running up the hill, feels the sun shine heatedly on her shoulders and –
–she goes.
