"Oooo!"
"Is this it?! Is it happening?!" Bernard ran anxiously to the side of the bed where his wife sat clenching her stomach.
"No Darling," Bianca exhaled. "Just another contraction."
"Do you need anything? Can I get you anything at all?" Bernard's face remained worried.
"A cold cloth would be..."
"A cold cloth. Okay, a cold cloth. I can get a cold cloth," the soon-to-be father frantically searched the bathroom drawers.
"Bernard," his wife called softly.
"Bianca!" he ran to her side once again. "Are you okay? What is it?!"
Bianca chuckled softly, her eyes closed.
"I was just going to tell you that the cloths are under the sink darling."
"Oh, right. Under the sink."
Later that night, the husband and wife both sat up in bed, leaning against the back wall.
Bernard's head kept falling to his shoulder.
"Bernard dear," Bianca whispered softly.
"Is everything okay?!" Bernard lifted his head and rubbed his eyes frantically.
"Everything is fine darling; you should go to sleep. There is no reason for us both to be sleep-deprived when the babies decide to arrive," she rubbed her belly gently.
"Are you sure? I can stay up if you need..." Bernard released a long yawn.
"Good night Bernard," Bianca kissed husband on the forehead.
Although feeling anxious and unprepared for his children's arrival, Bernard was able to rest.
Bianca was exhausted; her eyes began to flutter shut.
Then..."OH!"
Bernard sat up.
"Is it...?"
Bianca nodded.
"Oh my...oh my..." Bernard bounced off the end of the bed.
He gripped the front doorknob.
"I'll get Orville. He can fly us to the hospital."
"There is no time. They are coming now," Bianca enunciated through each heavy breath.
"Now?!" Bernard felt light-headed.
"Call Doctor Wilson."
Bernard ran to the phone and frantically dialed.
"Doctor Wilson?" he spoke quickly. "It's Bianca...the babies...she's in labor!"
Only moments later, Doctor Wilson arrived at the front step.
Bernard swung open the door, "In here." He pointed to his wife breathing rapidly on the bed.
The about-to-be-a-first-time-father paced back and forth nervously awaiting the birth of his children.
Minutes turned into hours.
The sun began peeking through the windows.
"Bernard," Doctor Wilson requested.
Bernard came and sat next to his wife.
"Bernard, take Bianca's hand."
The husband obeyed.
"Now, Bianca, this is it; one more big push and your first baby will be out. Are you ready? One, two, three."
Bianca gripped her husbands hand, showing no mercy.
"Waahhh!"
Doctor Wilson scooped the fragile mouse up from the mattress.
"Bianca," Bernard's eyes lit up. "It's a girl!"
Bianca grinned.
"Alright," the doctor spoke. "Only five more times."
"Only?" Bernard gulped.
They repeated it again and again, each time Bianca squeezed her husband's hand, Doctor Wilson removed the baby, and Bernard announced it was a girl.
"Okay Bianca, this is the last push. Are you ready?"
Bianca nodded her head and exhaled slowly.
"One, two, three..."
"Bianca! It's a boy!" Bernard grinned at his wife.
"Wow, five girls and one boy," Bernard's eyes widened at the idea.
"Congratulations Bianca and Bernard, I am sure you each will make fine parents," the doctor shook Bernard's hand and packed up his tool bag.
"Do you know what's next?" Bianca spoke quietly to her husband as she rested her body.
"What?"
"We get to name them."
Bernard smiled.
