Kindness

Heero Yuy walked through the crowded city park alone, hands shoved in the deep pockets of his long black coat. All of a sudden, he felt a small pull on the back of his jacket. He turned around and came face-to-face with a young boy who looked no older than seven.

"Excuse me, mister," the boy said.

Heero was a bit surprised, because most children ran away when he looked at them. But this boy held his gaze without one bit of fear. "Yes?" he answered.

"Mister, can you help me? I can't find my mom. I stopped to tie my shoe and then I looked up again and she was gone."

Heero smiled at the boy. "Sure. What's your name, kid?"

"My name's Nick," the boy responded.

"Okay. Come on, Nick." Heero offered his hand and Nick reached out and took it. Heero's hand was rough and scarred, stained by the blood of war, and the young child's skin felt so smooth against his own. Heero led him up the hill, asking, "Nick, can you tell me what your mother looks like?"

"Yeah. Um… she has yellow hair—"

"Blonde," Heero corrected.

"Yeah, blonde. Just like me. And she has blue jeans and white shoes and, uh… a green shirt," Nick described his mother.

"Okay. Hang on." Heero scanned the crowd for a woman that matched Nick's description. Finally, he found a woman near a tree at the edge of the park. He lifted Nick up in his arms and pointed to the woman. "Nick, is that your mom?"

"Yeah! That's her!" Nick ran down the hill, Heero following close behind. They ran over to the woman, who turned around and saw Nick coming toward her.

"Nick!" she cried. "Oh, I was so worried. I didn't know where you were."

"Me too. I couldn't find you, but that guy helped me," he answered, pointing to Heero.

"My name's Heero. Heero Yuy," Heero said, coming up and shaking the woman's hand.

"Casey Harris. Nice to meet you." She shook his hand and then said, "Well, I need to get going. Thanks for helping Nick. I don't know what would've happened if you hadn't come along."

Heero smiled and turned around and kept walking down the street.

From a distance, Duo Maxwell sat high in a tree, a pair of binoculars in his hands. So, the guy really can be nice sometimes… he thought. Then he lost his balance and fell out of the tree right onto someone's picnic lunch.

So, was it good? Please review. Ja ne! ^_^
