He's standing on the empty platform when I find him, staring at the empty field. It's littered with chairs and the debris of heartbreak.
He doesn't turn when I stand beside him. I want to reach out, clutch his hand, but I don't.
"Like a phoenix from the ashes," he mutters. His eyes are vague, when I finally see them.
"You think he'll reopen the plant?" I ask. "Is it just a temporary shutdown?" My questions are in vain, though, as he smiles at me.
I suddenly think of tigers, of wolves. Of fire.
"A myth, Clark." He turns from the field, begins trotting down the steps of the stage.
"What is?"
"Though I might burn, I shall be reborn."
He pauses before he slides into his car, waiting for me to catch up.
"What are you going to do?"
He smiles, again, before starting the engine, and blinks lazily at me as he drives away.
I think of fire.
