Author's Note: WOW, okay, this was something I chose to do for English. Oh, did i mention I started watching Attack on Titan? No? um...well, I did, and I loved it. I'm currently reading the manga. And Rivetra is now one of my OTPs and I like to pretend that Petra's not dead most of the time, okay?

Happy Endings

The sky was blue and mostly clear, the sun providing a faint but pleasant-feeling warmth. It was beautiful weather...but the air did nothing to soften the scene laid out before him. The wind danced through the grass, rustling it, although most of it was streaked with the crimson blood of the fallen. The very few whole bodies left were bloody and mauled. Severed limbs were also scattered across the field. No one there at the time of the attack was spared.

He slowly walked through the field. His shorter stature did nothing to hinder his few of the scene. His face was shadowed over, taking a grim, cold expression , but shedding no tears. He was examining the scene, but he had hoped he would never have to face this again. He had known and trained with some of these soldiers. The mission had failed yet again, and people he had become close to had paid for it. It wasn't the first time it had happened.

Memories came flashing to his head...of people on the streets, before he had found himself in this Legion. Then he began to think of the forest. Their main enemy had been right on their tail, while he was with Eren and his old squad...Petra had talked Eren out of doing something rash that might have cost them the mission. In the end, it cost the lives of everyone in his squad but Eren. One hanging from a tree, cut by the neck...three in a clearing farther ahead, all bloodied, all life drained from their eyes.

The Commander had sent him out to check out why the squads on the right flank had stopped firing flares. Several had gone up at once, as a sign of urgency, then there was nothing. Of course he sent his strongest soldier. But it was too late-the monsters responsible had left after the meat was done for.

"Heichou..."

The voice was familiar, female...and unexpected. It would have made no sense to hear that now. Not now, not ever again. But as he turned, he saw pale apparitions of the four fallen soldiers from the forest. They smiled at him in a friendly way, and stood together as they had stood when they were with him. They seemed to glow against the sun, but they stood in the grass a short distance from him. As if they were actually there. As they stood there, he could no longer see the blood or mangled bodies that had littered the field only seconds before.

"We're okay, Levi. So don't worry about us anymore."

After she spoke, a breeze blew through the field once again, and the four were gone after it stopped, as if they blew away with it. The blood and gore returned to his sight. The real world was back in place, but Petra's words still rang in his ears.

The moment was over. He never saw her again, nor did he discover-or have any way of discovering-whether she told him a lie or was speaking the truth.
