You like fireworks because they remind you of summer, and being a kid and Violet. She was just as explosive and unpredictable and amazing and beautiful.
Everyone got together to spend the 4th of July at Addison's and Violet was sitting on the sand and you were getting the drinks. You sit down next to her and hand her a bottle. She turns her head and smiles and you wish you could tell her how you feel. But you can't because you're not even sure how to put it into words.
"I've always wanted fireworks." She says and looks up into the sky once again.
You laugh, "We're watching fireworks right now."
She elbows you and you feign a hurt expression that quickly turns into a grin. She shivers slightly from the evening breeze and huddles closer to you. Your heart starts beating a little faster and a little stronger, and you wonder if she can feel it. You wrap an arm around her and she fits with you just perfectly.
"I mean, when you're with the...one and it just feels...perfect. That feeling, it's like an explosion and you just know it's right."
"Fireworks?" you shake your head disbelievingly because you can't wrap your head around what she's saying and the fact that that's exactly how you feel with her.
"I'm being serious?" She exclaims, and then laughs. She stops though, before she continues. "Allan... There were no fireworks. I wanted there to be, so I pretended, it took me a while to realise."
You aren't sure what to say to that and your silence doesn't go unnoticed. She turns and looks up at you and you start rambling, just because it's better than silence.
"Cooper." She interrupts you, and you notice there's a certain look of something in her eyes. Something you don't quite recognise, but you're sure you've seen it before.
You open your mouth to say something more, but nothing comes and someone closes the gap.
It's shy and gentle at first but then she turns slightly to get closer and your thoughts get muddled. The sounds of the people talking and music blended into the waves crashing. And what she said about fireworks rings very true to your ears.
When you pull away, you look at her and feel hopeful when she doesn't look as if she wants to cry.
"That just happened, right?" you ask because you are in the position to be imagining this.
She bites her lip and nods.
You both look around and notice everyone else looking in your direction. She blushes and you think you love her a bit more. Silence overcomes both of you for a while before she speaks again. "Fireworks. Lots of fireworks."
You laugh and she leans against your chest. She intertwines her fingers with yours and you both watch the explosions in the sky.
