Heero silently watched
Relena as she slept, and wondered what she was dreaming. He snorted at
his thoughts and turned back to the papers she had been working on before
she'd fallen asleep. Some important new treaty to fix, he thought,
for her to spending so much time working on it. He had read through
it, fixing small errors that she hadn't noticed, most likely due to her
exhaustion, and then stacked them neatly on her desk. She would probably
never know he'd visited, and he couldn't help but wonder how she'd never
noticed.
He was always watching.
Sometimes he would appear from seemingly nowhere to help her. Almost as
though he had nothing better to do, which maybe he didn't. Perhaps it was
his personal mission, to protect her, that lead him to always be near by,
perhaps it was something else. Either way, he didn't think about it and
he was careful not to leave too much of a trace for anyone to ever suspect
he'd been there.
As far as the others
knew, he had just disappeared, none of them ever knowing that he was never
far away. That was simply the way he preferred for it to be. He glanced
up from the pile of papers, back to Relena where she lay on a sofa, clutching
the edge of the blanket he'd draped over her in one small hand. He got
up, pushing the chair back to the desk, walked over to her, and crouched
at the end where her head rested.
Her hair spilled across
her face and around her shoulders, her face for once at peace. He allowed
a ghost of a smile to grace his lips for a moment, his eyes softening ever
so slightly. He hesitantly reached to brush her hair from her face, then
touched two fingers to his lips and then to her cheek, stroking the soft
skin for a moment. She sighed and he pulled his hand back, afraid he had
awakened her, but she only turned on her side, softly murmuring "Heero..."
Again the ghost of a smile played across his features and he turned away.
Quietly as he could, he made his way to the window at the opposite side
of the room, pausing only to switch off the lamp, leaving the only light
in the room that of the dying fire in the hearth.
At the window he stopped
once more, pale moonlight forming a halo around his dark silhouette, and
took one last glance at her before fleeing into the night once more. "Good
night... Relena..."
so? what'd ya think? review! please?
