It's late and both Rima and Shiki sat on the marble steps of their modeling company. Shiki leans his head on the glass doors and closes his eyes. Everyone had already gone home, yet they stayed back to look at the stars. Rima always said you could see the stars better from there, especially when you were sharing a delicious box of pokey.
But tonight Rima was just staring down at her black shoes. She hadn't talked much all day, not even to Shiki. As the night grew silent, Shiki gives Rima a sideways glance.
"Rima?" Shiki says. He hadn't forced her to talk all day, but now he was getting the feeling that as her best friend, it was his duty to comfort her. Rima looks up as if yanked out in mid-thought.
"Are you okay?" he asked. Rima just put on her emotionless doll face and nods, he closes his eyes again. Rima reaches into her bag and takes out a new box of pokey's. She opens it and stops. She looks up at the stars quietly.
"Shiki?" Rima says.
Shiki turns and finds her holding out a pokey. He leans forward and takes it with his teeth. As he sits back, Rima coughs and sits up straight.
"I'm moving."
Shiki accidentally breaks the tip off of the pokey with his teeth. He turns to look at her, too stunned to say but a word.
"What?"
Rima tips her head slightly, covering her face with her brown hair.
"My mother says, the company is moving my modeling career down south. That means I have to leave the school, find one that's closer so I wont have to hesitate, with the distance."
It was silent. Shiki sat there, his mind racing. She's leaving? Why? When? How long? Will I ever see her again? Rima looks up as Shiki gets to his feet. He looked down at her and offers a hand. She takes it and stands up.
"Where are we going?" Rima asks in her usual monotone, taking out a pokey and sticking it in her mouth. She tucks the box back into her bag.
"I'm gonna have a little word with your mom" Shiki says before starting down the steps . Rima stays and watches him go. What was he going to say? Rima cant go, she has to stay? Right like that would work. Rima had already tried herself to change her moms mind. But that's the point. It wasn't her moms decision, but the company. This whole thing was out of their hands.
Shiki stops and looks up at her. He tilts his head, signaling her to come. Rima bites her lip, then gracefully goes down and walks along side next to him.
