Dean was pissy drunk and he couldn't remember how he got that way. It seemed innocent enough when Seamus had approached him after Ginny had broken up with him. Dean hadn't really been about to kill himself, he wasn't going to cut deep enough where would not have bleed to death. There would have been time to perform a quick healing spell. If he wanted to. Seamus had grabbed Dean and pulled him away from the astronomy tower, stating that, "We need to have a drink, my friend." So they did. And another, and another. Somehow they had both ended up without shirts on, which wasn't totally uncommon since it was entering summer.
"Look, I'm a rhinoceros." Seamus said, tying his school tie around his forehead. "What's the noise that a rhinoceros makes?"
"I don't know. " Dean thought. "I don't think they make any noise."
"I'm sure they do." Seamus argued. "Maybe it's the noise of the ground shaking when they are running?"
"What does that sound like?" Dean furrowed his eyebrows. "I don't think you can make that noise with your mouth."
"I don't think I can." Seamus pouted while taking another sip of his firewhiskey. There was a long silence as the two best friends were just content with sitting side by side, shoulders barely touching.
"I wasn't really going to do it." Dean muttered. " I could not have. I just couldn't stand to see them together, she's so happy with him."Dean swallowed hard. "I knew even before we started to date that I was just a substitute. I was as close as she could get to Harry. I thought I could change her but I was being stupid."
Seamus picked up Dean's school tie off the ground and went to tie it around Dean's naked chest. "Look, you're a half naked school boy."
"What sound does that make?" Dean smiled as he stared into Seamus's eyes. Seamus held Dean's face gently in his hands. Dean looked pitifully at Seamus's half smile.
"I guess like two guys kissing." Seamus laughed as he grabbed Dean and pulled his face towards him. Dean turned his head at the last minute.
"Why?"
"It's the only way I can comfort you." Seamus said. "Everything is going to be alright. Be happy that you two are able to still find happiness with everything that is going on right now. I'm not saying what she did wasn't wrong, but, that's the past now."
"But I still love her." Dean cried. Seamus started to kiss his tears away.
"And you can still love her. But, loving her means letting her be happy. And letting yourself being happy too." Seamus rubbed up and down Dean's back and he found himself leaning closer to his best friend.
