Wally ran a hand through his damp hair, smoothing it back into place. 'She'll be here any minute', he thought. Jinx had told him to meet her on the roof of the old Wayne Enterprises building in Jump City. She said she'd had something important to tell him.
He'd been waiting there for nearly twenty minutes, ran a good 90 laps around the building out of nervousness, and even ignored a call from his Uncle Barry in case she tried to call his cell.
'Maybe she wasn't coming after all….Maybe she just said that so I'd look like a fool..' A wheezing sigh escaped his lips. Ever since she left the Hive 5, they'd been in a complicated relationship. He couldn't bring her along when he went on missions. Robin didn't find her resignation convincing. The Titans East trusted her more, but were still uneasy about leaving her unsupervised.
He'd heard from his pen pal in Steel City that things had been going well and Elliot had transitioned well to doing good rather than bad.
But Kyd Wykkyd was different. Elliot was willing to lose his life for a stranger. He was born to be a hero. He recuperated in the care of the kindest, most trusting girl that Wally had ever had the pleasure of meeting. Hailey had given Kyd Wykkyd a reason to be kind.
Jinx, on the other hand, was raised a troublemaker, and had to earn the trust of the one person who would never give it.
Grayson.
How Birdy ever managed to put up with that guy, he'd never know. He just found Boy Wonder to be very annoying.
While Wally mused about Roadrunner and Loserwing-Of-The-Future's eventual nuptials, a pair of footsteps echoed up the fire escape. He turned around to find Jinx appearing through the shadows.
"Hey."
"Hey. So, where've you been?" He wiped the sweat away from his brow once again, a slight shiver racking his frame.
"You okay? You look a little cold."
"Nah, I'm fine. My unitard traps in heat, so I'm nice and toasty in here!" Wally grinned cheekily.
"Then why were you shaking a second ago?" She questioned. His girlfriend could see straight through the act, and he knew it, but the ginger continued on anyway.
"Eh, sometimes a breeze gets through..kinda a shock to the system if ya catch my drift." He coughed slightly.
"Come 'ere Swifty." Jinx grabbed his hands and pulled him close to her. She stood on her tiptoes and kissed his forehead.
"Hey now, what was that for?" He smiled sweetly at her.
"To see if you have a fever, which you do." She reflected his smile with her own, her cat-eyes glinting in the moonlight.
"Then I hope I'm not contagious when I do this." He quickly captured her lips with his own, arms snaking around the magenta's waist. After a moment, Jinx broke the kiss for air.
"Even if you were, it'd be worth it. You're the best kisser I know." She crept back towards edge of the roof, motioning for Kid Flash to follow her before disappearing down the fire escape.
The moment he slid down the ladder, she tossed her keys at him. Wally stared at the girl for a moment, a confused expression on his face.
Jinx merely grinned. "Hope you're ok with driving!"
