"Unless you can give me a reason not to."
Jackson cocked his head to the side, speechless for a moment. "Because you want me." He said. "You can't get married, because you want me." He said pointing to himself.
April furrowed her brow and opened her moth, but he cut her off before she could speak.
"I want you too, I do, I never stopped wanting you. But whether anything comes of that or not, you can't do that to him. You can't marry him, if you want someone else."
He sat up a little on the bed. "If I were him, I wouldn't want to get married to a girl that wants another guy. That's your one reason." He said.
April looked surprised by his little speech, but she nodded and started to cry all over again. "You're right." She said. "I never should have said yes to him, not when all I could think about was you."
She walked over and sat in the chair by his bed. "When that bus exploded, and I thought I lost you, I thought you were dead, I felt, for just a minute, like I would die too." She said. "And then there you were, carrying that little girl and you were alive, and all I wanted to do, was tell you how in love with you I am." She said as fresh tears ran down her face.
Jackson reached a hand out and she took it. He squeezed lightly. "Don't cry, everything will turn out ok, it always does." He said, and he smiled a little, looking longingly at her. "I'm not going to say it back, not now. But when you're ready, when there's nothing standing in our way, I'll say it.
"Until then." He said as he slid his hand out of hers and lay in on the bed beside him.
