NOTE: please note that all characters and places are property of Tamora Pierce, I just wrote this little thing about her charcters.
Daine threw open the shutters and let the sunlight pour into the darkened room. She had just got back from a trip to Long Lake to see the pack and Maura. It had been two weeks, and she wished that Numair had been able to come with her, but he wasn't in the position for pleasure jaunts at the moment. Jonathan had sent him northwards, to the border, to check out the freak storms that had been hitting settlements around the area for weeks now. The country was only just starting to recover from the Immortals War, and it wouldn't be good news for those living in the north of Tortall if these storms couldn't be stopped. She wished he was here, right now. She had missed him so much in the short amount of time they had been apart. It had been four months since they had returned from the Divine Realms, and they didn't like keeping their love a secret from their friends, but deep down Daine knew she was scared to tell them, to tell everyone. 'What if they disapprove of me for it? What if they hate me?' The age old question ran through her head. Numair always assured her that they wouldn't, but still? Her thoughts were back to him. How she longed to have his strong arms around her, his lips on hers… He was getting back later that week, and Daine couldn't wait. 'We will have to pick up where we left off' Daine thought to herself with a smile. Numair was still being the gentleman and refusing to bed her, fearing what the court vipers would say. But when he held her close, kissed her passionately, her knees still trembled like the first time. Daine wrapped her arms around herself; she had goose bumps just thinking about it…
"Milady…"
Daine's head snapped round as she jolted from her daydream. A young messenger boy stood in the doorway.
"Yes, what is it?" She inquired.
"He wishes to see you, mam'" the boy answered. Daine frowned.
"Who's 'he'" She asked in puzzlement.
"He said it was meant to be a surprise milady" the small boy piped.
"Very well" Daine said with a smile. She gestured. "Lead the way".
