Rain was never good for the captain of squad thirteen. It had an unseemly habit of irritating his cough, even when he did his best to keep it under control. It was always on these rainy days that Kyouraku-taichou worried the most about Jyuushiro. Of course, the concern was accepted; the insistence of rest was not.
"You should be in bed," Shunsui persisted gently.
"I'm fine," Jyuushiro replied for what felt like the thousandth time.
"No, you're not."
"Yes, I am."
"No, you're not."
"Yes, I am."
"No, you're not."
The argument might have continued for quite some time, if Jyuushiro had not been interrupted by a nasty bout of coughing, leaving him wheezing for breath and leaning against Shunsui's strong chest.
"A-alright," he managed to mumble. "M-maybe just… a… little rest…"
Shunsui smiled softly, kissing Jyuushiro's forehead as he wound a blanket around his lover's trembling shoulders, hefting him effortlessly into his arms.
Despite his protests before, Jyuushiro clung to Shunsui now. His presence was… comforting, even if Jyuushiro refused to admit that the rain was bad for his disease.
Shunsui carried the stubborn captain to their bedroom, gently laying him out on the futon. "Rest," he said, his tone firm now.
Jyuushiro managed a weak nod, but tugged on Shunsui's sleeve, a silent request for him to lie down.
Shunsui didn't even think to deny Jyuushiro that, and tentatively slid under the blankets, pulling his beloved into his arms with a soft, tired sigh.
