INTRODUCTION: PART ONE

RORY GILMORE:

Rory Gilmore had spent all her life anticipating the day when her letter from Yale would arrive. So when it arrived on a hot summer's day she was relived to know that she had been accepted. All her life Rory had wanted to attend Yale University. Even in her diaper days she knew she would be attending Yale. She would walk around town with her Yale University sweatshirt.

Lorelei Gilmore had always wanted her daughter to go to Yale, she was supposed to be better then what she herself was. Lorelei was the rebellious daughter of Richard and Emily Gilmore. They came from what we call old money. Their ancestry stretched all the way back to the May Flower. Yet Lorelei was never interested in that type of lifestyle. Se always wished that she could escape her golden cage and experience the real world. But when she did manage to escape it wasn't under the best terms. She had gotten pregnant at the age of sixteen from her high school sweetheart and chosen to have her child but not marry the father, Christopher Hayden. The family's relationship was very depressing; it was filled with resentment and disappointment.

In the life of society there are two types of categories, old money and new money. Those that belonged to old money were highly respected. They had worked hard to get their fortune and maintain it over the generations. Their life was filled with family traditions. But those that came from new money were looked down at. They had just stumbled across a fortune and had not had to work hard to get it or maintain it. It was sad but that was their way of life and it could not be changed no matter how much one wished they could.

It was that life that Lorelei had runaway from with Rory. She wanted to teach Rory the things that truly mattered in life; love, family, trust and friendship, not money or breeding. But when Rory had turned sixteen she had been accepted into one of Connecticut's most prestigious high schools, Chilton. People that went there had a higher chance of getting into the Ivy League colleges, like say Yale. Lorelei had a steady income and no way of paying for Chilton so she was force to swallow her pride and ask her parents for financial help.

Three years passed and Rory had graduated as valedictorian of her class. She had been accepted to all the schools she applied to, all Ivy League, including Yale. It was of course not even decision, Rory immediately registered into Yale and dreamed of her first day as a college student.

Her first year at Yale went fine education wise, except for a class that she dropped everything went good but romantically, not so much. Rory unfortunately had made the mistake of giving Dean, her high school boyfriend, her virginity. The problem was that Dean was married to s girl named Lindsey. After realizing the error she had committed Rory decided to leave for Europe with her grandmother in hopes of forgetting the events that had occurred that summer. When she returned home just before summer ended she ended things with Dean. He was less than pleased to say the least.

Now into her sophomore year at Yale, Rory is positive that love has given up on her. She is deadly wrong. This will be a year she will never forget…………….
