PLEASE READ MY AUTHOR'S NOTE AS IT CONTAINS VITAL INFORMATION TO THE STORY!

At the start of this story Kagome is 17, however when she joins Ouran a year after the events that you're just about to read she is still in the same class as Mori despite being a year older than him, this is because Ouran allowed her to join that class due to her frequent past 'illnesses' causing her to be behind others her age. Also because of the amazing progress she made in the last year and her perfect scores in the scholarship exam they were willing to overlook her difficulties in her past high school. Right! So now you're all caught up, here's the story! I hope you enjoy!

Behind Icy Walls

Chapter 1: Anyone home?

Higurashi shrine

Please be home. Please I need you.

Kagome stumbled out of the well house. Her normally silky, flowing hair was knotted with blood and dirt. Her now red and brown uniform was ripped to shreds, one of her breasts just barely covered and the other fully exposed, showing off a deep red gash sluggishly oozing blood and pus. Her wounds were all dripping across her skin, making her hands slip along whatever surface she grabbed, black viscera stuck to her previously pale body occasionally coming loose to land with a sickening splat on the ground beneath her.

Everyone from there is gone. My sister, my brothers, oh god even him.

She choked back a sob, she wouldn't cry, it would be hard enough on her first family to see her so beaten up, let alone if she were to start wailing like she so wanted to. She extended her senses, born from months of harsh training, and while searching for her mother she couldn't help but remember.

*Flashback*

She chuckled as she watched him, all excited and nervous as they prepared for the ceremony that would connect them to each other for life.

'It'll be fine my dear. We'll be fine.'

'How can you be so calm! You know what happens if this goes wrong! What if you get hurt? What if the change causes your powers to disappear? What if-'

Though she knew she shouldn't, she couldn't help but burst out laughing as his speech got more frantic. He was so cute!

'Why are you laughing?' He all but screeched.

'I'm sorry, i'm sorry. I know you're really worried, but you don't need to be!' She wiped the moisture from the corner of her eyes and suppressed her mirth, smiling as gently as the summer breeze through the cherry trees surrounding them.

'How can you be so calm?' He asked again, much softer now.

Her gaze became tender as she looked at him.

'Do you love me?'

His eyes widened, almost seeming affronted by the question.

'Of course I do! You know that.'

Her smile widened to a beaming grin as her eyes lit up with happiness.

'Yes I do. And you know that I love you too. That's how I know we'll both be fine.'

*Flashback end*

She furiously wiped away the tears before they could fall and forced herself to focus on the present, you can't bring back what's dead. Grandpa seemed to be upstairs in Souta's room for some reason and mother's was energy alone in the garden. She couldn't sense Souta but that was probably for the best, she didn't want him to see her like this, he was too young to know the horror's of war.

She managed to drag herself slowly out of the shed, concentrating on each individual step so as not to trip over herself in her exhaustion. It was slow going to say the least.

When she finally stumbled out of the shed she was nearly blinded by the sudden burst of sunlight. She was so distracted by trying to stay upright that she didn't even hear the gasp that accompanied her entrance. When her eyes finally did adjust she saw the kind and familiar figure of her mother standing before her. But something was off, her mother's eyes were red with tears past shed and her cheeks were soaked with that same sorrow. She had known her mother would be upset at her appearance, but she looked as though she had been crying for hours.

'Mum? What's wrong? I-I know I look bad but i'll be fine.' Kagome coughed out weakly, voice hoarse from screaming and crying.

Rather than being comforted her mother seemed to fold in on herself, her face crumpling in a mixture of desolation, fear and pity, her shoulder's hunching in as though trying to contain something to large and heavy to be contained.

'Mum..? Are you okay? You don't look so good.' The irony of asking someone else about how they felt in the state she was in struck her, but oddly Kagome's mother seemed the more vulnerable out of the two of them. For some reason Souta's absence popped into her mind once more and began to nag at her.

'Is Souta at a friend's house mum? Why can't I sense him? At least he won't have to see me like this I suppose. Seeing his great big sister so beat up would probably- Mum!'

Kagome's mother had broken down sobbing and wailing in the middle of her sentence, dropping to her knees as though a weight were crushing her. Kagome tried to race towards her to help but her legs wouldn't cooperate and her twisted ankle caused her to fall to the ground, a muffled yell escaping without her permission as her wounds scraped against the ground. Her mother let out a loud cry of worry in between her sobs.

'I'm-I'm so s-sorry dear! You're probably-probably hurt so ba-bad right now! I'm sorry! I'm sorry!'

Kagome looked up in panic at her mother's voice and tried to calm her.

'I'm fine but please! Mum what's wrong?' She shouted as best as she could, now feeling frantic.

'O-oh my dearest, i-its your brother, it's Souta he- there was a child and- they- the ball- they ran into the road and Souta he- he saved them Kagome! B-but he couldn't get out of the way in time. He- He's gone Kagome! My little boy is dead!'

Kagome froze. That... That couldn't be right. This time period was supposed to be safe. It was safe. Her family was supposed to go on hot spring trips and come home at inappropriate times and- and always, always be there. She- she couldn't- she couldn't breathe. Where was the air? Why was- What was happening? She felt a disturbing urge slowly bubbling up into her throat. She tried to get her arms to work, to push her up, her brother needed her, but she couldn't move. She had just come back from a war, she had slew hundred's of demons, she was still covered in the viscous remains of Naraku, but she- she couldn't save- Suddenly that urge burst out from her as loud as any outraged battle cry or devastated wail.

The laughter sprung from her savaged throat, popping the blood vessels inside her oesophagus causing blood to trickle from the side of her mouth making her laughter became gargled. She could feel her mother desperately shaking her but she couldn't stop, even as she felt her air run out, unable to draw a single breath, she couldn't stop. Her laughter devolved into nothing more than violent spasms rocking her whole body until finally, blessedly, she fell into the comforting depths of unconsciousness, still clinging impossibly tight to a deceptively innocent looking pale pink jewel.

One Year Later

She sighed as she looked around the huge mansion of a building. She didn't know how anyone could think of this place as a school, for goodness sake she could swear it was sparkling. She was supposed to be in class already but all the hallways looked the same and the direction's she had been given by one of the school's attendants quickly became useless as she realised that, 'Turn right at the 14th century european vase then left at the baroque mahogany coffee table.' might as well have been gibberish for all that it meant to her as all of the corridors were covered in fancy vases and tables. She sighed once more as she listlessly expanded her powers to scan the surrounding area for someone she might ask for usable directions from.

There, just a few metres away, was a single person hesitantly loitering around in the corner to her right. When she rounded the corner she saw a mop of messy brown hair attached to a girl of about average height wearing a baggy grey jumper and a set of thick rimmed glasses. Kagome walked up to her and waited to be noticed, which took a surprisingly long time, so she used the time to study the individual before her. Despite the fact that the girl must only be about an inch or two shorter than herself she somehow seemed... small. That was the only way she could think of it, she just seemed to exude a sense of, smallness, like she didn't want to be noticed. She seemed very cute. She shuddered at the thought. Cute things were dangerous. Kagome should just slip away now while she was still unnoticed. However just as she was about to turn around and leave the girl seemed to finally realise she wasn't alone and whipped around to face the intruder to her personal space. Oh God thought Kagome, the light was just right in the corridor for the other girl's eyes to almost seem to sparkle beneath her clunky glasses, her pale perfect skin was almost glowing and oh God Kagome was screwed.

'Hello? Are you alright? Was there something you needed?'

Kagome snapped herself out of her inner struggle to look at the confused girl's expression. She sighed once more.

'Third year, Class A, directions... please.' She asked gruffly, voice husky from disuse.

She saw the girls eyes widen and internally cursed herself, she had probably scared the girl off with her rough demeanour. Gods she's so out of practise. But to Kagame's surprise the girl didn't stutter endlessly or run away as some people had before, she just replied, in a sympathetic tone,

'Are you lost too? All these hallways look the same and seriously what kind of directions are, 'turn left at the 15th century chandler' anyway?' she started muttering under her breath, 'Stupid rich bastards.'

Kagome could swear her lips nearly twitched upwards into a smile, as it was all that actually happened was a weird almost unnoticeable spasm at one corner of her mouth, but it still shocked her. That hadn't happened in nearly a year!

'I am.' She grunted out roughly, interrupting the girl's muttering, causing her to start. There it was again, that weird spasm, what was happening to her?

The girl smiled brightly at Kagome, so much so that she could swear she was glowing, and kagome felt a weird kind of warmth flicker inside her for just a second.

'Let's go see if can't both find where we to need go.'

Kagome nodded hesitantly, slightly afraid of the unassuming girl in front of her.

Dangerous indeed.

Hi guys. I know, it's been an incredibly long time ^^'' I've decided i'm going to be re-writing this story, I still like the basic idea of what I was going to be writing, but my writing skills have improved dramatically since I last updated this story. So before I make any new chapters i'm going to be entirely re-vamping the old ones!

I hope you guys like it!
