Disclaimer: Person of Interest doesn't belong to me. If it did, we wouldn't be doing stories like this because John and Joss would be alive.
Pre A/N: So I wrote this a while ago, after that ending, but left it to work on other stories. My muse likes to be all over the place :D Either way, hope you like this short and sweet little thing :)
Back Together
John felt the life slipping from his body as he laid slump against where the computer sat, waiting for the missile to end his life. He had no regrets about taking Harold's place, feeling that it was something one friend would do for another. He was grateful because the world would be saved thanks to his sacrifice. John was sure that it would make Joss proud.
As Samaritan agents got closer, he gave them a defiant smile. With this last act, he hoped to meet the love of his life on the other side. John tried so hard to move on after Joss's death, even tried to be in a relationship with Iris. She couldn't compare to Joss though. John was able to be himself around her whereas with Iris, he had to pretend to be another person and keep secrets.
Off in the distance, he could make out a cloud trail. It was coming and coming fast. John knew that everyone would continue with the numbers, especially with Samaritan gone for good.
Only a few more seconds left. John's focus was on the thing that would bring about his death more than the agents that were drawing closer. His last action was to close his eyes and wait.
The next few seconds were silent. Even though he didn't feel anything, the air around him felt different. His body and mind felt at peace. When John opened his eyes, he was no longer on the rooftop but instead there was a meadow of flowers before him. John looked up and saw that he was leaning against a large and flourished tree that was providing him shade.
He slowly eased his body up, not feeling any pain. When John went to smooth out his clothes, he saw that he was now wearing a white dress shirt with white slacks and no shoes. The grass under him was soft and warm, causing John to smile as he stepped away from the tree.
Just then, he heard it. "John!"
This distant voice drew his attention and when he turned towards the source, John could make out a lone figure in the distance quickly drawing closer. As the features became more distinct, his eyes widened as he recognized none other than Joss Carter running towards him with a glowing smile on her face along with tears falling down her cheek. John didn't hesitate to do the same, darting out to meet her in the middle.
They couldn't be together fast enough and when they finally closed the distance, John quickly scooped Joss into a tight hug before spinning them around. He could smell the jasmine that he missed so dearly envelop him. John didn't want to let her go ever again.
Joss was crying in joy. No longer would she be alone in this wonderful place. Her other half, the one she had been waiting to join her for what felt like forever, was finally here. "John" she whispered when he finally put her down as the tears continued to stream down her face. "I've been waiting for you."
He nodded his head, tenderly brushing away her loose hair to get a better look at her eyes. "We made a promise remember." Their lips found each other and the missing parts of their hearts filled the almost 2 year gap as they began the next step in their journey.
