Iain had served the evening meal for himself and Rita that night, knowing that Rita had just finished a very difficult shift, and that she had stayed at work for an extra two hours later than she should have done.

"Dinner is served m'lady. Pasta with cheese sauce and mushrooms; your favourite." Iain sat next to Rita in his dining room, placing the dinner plates on the table in front of Rita and him.

Rita nodded and mumbled a thanks, thinking about the difficult shift that she had had that day, not being able to focus on anything else.

Iain knew that Rita wasn't in a good mood, and didn't want to annoy or upset her any more than she already was, so he settled for eating in silence until Rita showed any signs of wanting to talk.

After Iain had been eating for a while, finishing almost half of his meal, he glanced over to Rita, who hadn't eaten anything yet. "You should sell that, it's art."

Rita didn't look up, but she did place her fork down on the table and sigh deeply.

"Okay, you need to talk. I'm sorry for not realising it earlier." Iain stopped eating and mirrored Rita's action of putting the fork on the table. "I promise I'm listening now."

"There's so much to say. I don't know where to start."

After Rita had talked through her problems to Iain for almost 45 minutes she was exhausted, and she was struggling to stay awake.

"Babe, you need to get to bed. Shall I come up with you?" Iain took Rita's hand, forgetting about their dinner on the table.

"Not if you're not tired. I'll be alright." Rita struggled to finish her sentence without yawning.

"Okay, but I'm carrying you up."

By the time Iain reached his bedroom with Rita in his arms she was already fast asleep. He gently placed her on the bed, so that she wasn't woken by the movement and glanced at the clock. Noticing that it was only 10 o'clock, he knew he wouldn't sleep if he went to bed so he went downstairs to tidy after dinner, and get himself something else to eat since he had left more dinner than he'd eaten that night.

He cleaned up downstairs, listening to the radio as he went, and made himself some toast and jam to ward off hunger for the rest of the night, until he had breakfast in the morning.

Iain was worried about Rita, since she had been struggling a lot at work recently and often came home quietly and did not seem as interested in talking to Iain as she had been previously. He decided to book them a holiday, just for a few days to keep her away from work and to give her a change of scenery for a little while.

Hope you enjoyed this, I've been enjoying writing recently, especially since I've been re-reading things that I wrote recently and realised how much I enjoy writing and hown good I am at it (sorry, bragging).
