"Jinx, why do you still think that's a good idea?" Leona asked, long since having stopped trying to hide her exasperation. She couldn't count the number of times they'd had this same conversation.
"I didn't say it was a good idea," Jinx muttered, glaring to the side and giggling. "Just an AWESOME ONE!"
Leona barely flinched at the sudden change in tone. It had only taken her a time or twenty, but she had come to expect it from the boisterous waif. She searched for some argument she hadn't already presented a thousand times.
"Think about it this way. How would you have met Fishbones, if you didn't have the sun to light your way?"
"There would still be light," Jinx explained with exaggerated patience. She poked the sun champion on the nose. "Haven't you seen explosions? They're all FLASH! BANG! POW!"
Leona jerked back quickly to avoid being punched in the face as Jinx leapt in a circle to emphasize her sound effects.
"You just need to explode more, shiny pants. Then you'll get it." She nodded sagely.
"Jinx, you do know that ordinary people generally try not to explode, don't you?"
"Ordinary." Jinx's eyes rolled up and away. "Ordinary, ordinary…oh right, you mean BORING." She leaned in, squinting at Leona. "You're not boring, are you, sun cheeks?"
Leona crossed her arms. "Well, if that's your criteria, then I guess I -"
"Because," Jinx rolled back on her heels, spinning her braid, "if you're boring, then I guess I have no reason to talk to you anymore. Then it will just be Ziggs around to convince me against awesome solar explosions."
Leona shuddered dramatically. She knew it was a ploy; subtlety was not Jinx's greatest asset. She knew Jinx didn't really have any way of hurting her deity, but at least when they were together Leona could prevent any spontaneous killing sprees or other needlessly destructive pursuits.
And bantering with Jinx was a relief after a day of reconciling angry Solari or being on the receiving end of one of Diana's verbal barrages.
"Well, I do have this crate of fireworks I picked up the last time I was in Ionia…"
Jinx's grin grew wider still. It almost reached her eyes. "That's what I'm talking about! Let me at 'em!"
