Not What it Seems
He watched her as she crossed the street, her hair billowing behind her. Her hand was clasped with Dean's, whose smile could light up the dark. They look happy, Harry thought to himself for a moment, then turned back to Ron and Hermione was were sitting next to him. Ron was staring, his face slightly red, and Hermione had her lips pressed together, her eyebrows saying enough.
"I'm not jealous," he said, shaking his head.
"Uh, huh... and I'm not going to put off this paper until it's due," Ron scoffed, then proceeded to shove the beginnings of a History of Magic essay into his backpack.
"Harry, you have to get over her," Hermione said with a disappointed look at Ron, "she's moved on and so must you." Harry sighed deeply as he looked over to where they now sat, cuddled in a booth.
"I just - it sucks that I never thought about it until now."
"Now that she's happily taken? Bummer." Ron shook his head, not really liking the fact that his best friend seemed to be too caught up in his sister nowadays, but also his sister had a boyfriend who he had to share a room with. "Did you hear what he said to Seamus the other day?" Harry frowned.
"No?"
"He said that she smells nice," Ron said a bit too loudly. "Who just goes around smelling people?!"
"Ron, calm down," Hermione said putting her hand on Ron's arm.
"Any way," Ron said, seeming to deflate with Hermione's hand on his. "Mate, I think you need to move on." He started to look around quickly then stopped. "What about her, go talk to her." Ron was pointing to a Ravenclaw girl that they had in some of their classes with the blue and bronze house. Harry shook his head.
"I can't just approach people like that!"
"You're Harry freakin' Potter, of course you can," Ron said ushering him from his seat. Harry looked back at them as he made his was across the room, sweat starting to form. He was watching the girl, her eyes were so bright as she laughed. Her hair was beautifully blonde, and her mouth was just perfect. He didn't realise he was standing in front of her staring until she was looking at him, her eyebrows curved into a confused frown. She looked from him to her friends and back, waiting for him to say something.
"Um, hello?" she eventually ventured as Harry just stood there. He seemed to jump into action at her words. Stuttering and spluttering.
"I - uh, hey - would... um, you like me... uh, another butterbeer?" He managed to get out. She looked thoroughly confused as he waited there for her answer.
"Um, no," she said plainly, "you can wander back to your group of weirdos now." Harry's jaw almost dropped as he stared at her, her lips pressed in an almost impressively evil smirk, and her eyes full of malice. Harry turned quickly, trying to hide his embarrassment and as he did he heard the hissing of whispering as the girls behind him began to giggle.
"Did you see him..."
"Thought he was going to cry..."
"Had the nerve to ask me out..."
Harry sped back to his table, but didn't stop there. He was out the door with his coat and halfway back to Hogwarts before Ron and Hermione caught up.
"What happened?" Ron asked, trying to keep up with Harry's pace.
"I don't want to talk about it."
"Next time will go better," Hermione offered.
"There will be no next time."
