Brothers

Prologue: Beginnings

"A long time ago, before man and Kage-Inu lived in harmony, there was the sun and the moon. The tale of how the Kage-Inu and the Taiyonoinu came into existence is well known amongst our kind, but the humans have long since forgotten the tale. The tale of Hikarinu. For before his fall and his separation from the sun the moon and the sun had a child. A single pup who's fur was white as snow. He was said to be a blessing and that he was proof that the sun and moon could live in harmony, and not as opposing forces. They named the child Hikarinu. The gods in their anger took the child away, but as we all know the gods do not kill our own. The gods raised him as a warrior of light, but as he grew older it became clearer that his devotion to his parents was bound to drive him home to them. The day finally came when Hikarinu would come of age, but the sun and the moon had been cunning for even though they were apart had timed his birth so carefully so that on the day he came of age the sun and moon net in the sky together. And the boy's true nature was revealed. He bore his father's form. Fur white as snow but markings as blue as the ocean waves. He was the first of his kind. The gods decided to punish the sun and moon by making them destroy the very child they had created. But their cunning was not over yet. Hikarinu's soul was split into thousands of pieces and scattered across the world. So every now and again along will come one of the Kage-Inu who bares Hikarinu's markings and it is said that one day one such member of the Kage-Inu will rise against the gods and the sun and moon will be reunited with their son, and bring about an age of unseen peace and joy. The end"

"Hold on. When will he come? How will we know?"

"You ask too many questions Suta. Just go to sleep."

"But Hozuki! I wanna know!"

"And you will in time bro. But just let mom finish"

"I am finished. Now go to bed."

I remember that was the first night I heard the story of Hikarinu. Little did I realise just how big of a part that story would play in our lives. The tale I'm about to tell you is one of brothers and how I lost mine.
