Hello readers! Thanks for choosing my Twilight AU, Why did you leave?. I hope to continue to entertain you the full duration of this story and update as frequently as possible. This story will be undergoing an editing session on the chapters posted and when that is finished the new chapters will come rolling out.

There are actually only nine chapters needing revising despite there being 11 overall. This is due to there being two author's notes I have removed in the story. I'm unsure if the reviews will stay after removing the notes, but if they do and it says for chapters 10 or 11, this is because of the deleted author's notes that are no longer relevant. If you are reading this late, then there may already be a chapter 10 or 11 up. If so ignore this.

Also, this story was written originally after New Moon had been released, so I had to make up a power for vampire Bella. In this case, I stole from Marvel's X-man, Rogue, as she is my favorite. It's not exactly the same, so you'll have to read to really get a good knowledge on her power.

I do not own Twilight.

Enjoy!

Chapter One

"Bella," my adoptive mother called.

Her name was Grace, and she was a lovely creature with bright emerald eyes despite the fact that she was a vampire. It was believed she retained a little of her humanity as her power. Grace was beautiful with curly blonde hair and appeared in her late twenties. She reminded me of an older Rosalie. I cringed pushing the thoughts of the Cullens from my brain.

I sighed and ran at vampire speed towards Grace's voice through the ballroom trying to follow the echoes it left behind. The large house was owned by the Pure family, and was located in the country of Wyoming. It was very secluded and far from the prying eyes of humans. The house was the largest out of the four my family owned. The home had an impressive library that contained nearly ten thousand books including some in Latin from Rome. Other than the normal rooms it also contained a lab in which Grace worked and ballroom where parties were held.

The parties we threw were absolutely amazing. They were what I looked forward to most out of the year. Many covens from around the world despite their tastes in blood would attend. Arra, our family's leader, had become friends with many different covens over the centuries, and that included the Volturi. I have come to know them all quite well, Aro especially, mostly because he couldn't get into my head.

Aro thought my talent was one of the most powerful he'd ever encountered. I could drain the power from another vampire, but it was only limited to my right hand. Even with this ability, I have never kept another vampire's power, and have always returned them. I sometimes steal them unintentionally.

Finally, I tracked down Grace to the family room. I went in to see Grace next to her husband, Almanzo, who posed as my father, but I could never see him as such. Sitting on the other side of Grace was Sally. I sat down next to her on the couch as she smiled at me and looked like she was about to say something when Lewis' large frame came through the door interrupting her. He sat on the love seat in front of the large plasma screen television. I knew Arra would not be far behind him.

We spent most of our time here in the family room. An old PlayStation 2 sat on a shelf collecting dust. It had become collectable now since about twenty years ago when the gaming industry came out with the GameStation series. We currently had the GameStation 4, the latest in virtual gaming technology. On the floor were a few small gamechips you used to play it with. Looking away from all the technology, I saw someone had pulled out an old, non-virtual chess set. A small smile tugged at my lips seeing the antique still in use with an unfinished game still on it.

Arra, our head honcho, suddenly appeared in the room, but nobody paid it any attention. One of her powers allowed her to stop or control time, and she took advantage of it by popping into random places unannounced. She was the oldest vampire in the coven, though only looked sixteen, and surprisingly the biological sister of Almanzo. Both Arra and Almanzo reminded me so much of the Volturi because of how pale and frail they looked due to their age, but it was obvious the Volturi were much older. Arra had the milky eyes, but Almanzo didn't due to Arra living so many alternate realities through her time travel. No one really knew Arra's real age, not even Arra, but she says she should be around seven hundred being born sometime in the 1300s. The rest of us looked like your average, normal vampire family. I chuckled at the thought as if there were such a thing.

We managed to live with humans by faking our true ages and relations. Arra posed as the only real child of Almanzo and Grace due to her looking almost identical to Almanzo. The rest of us Lewis, Sally, and I were adopted.

Lewis was by her side instantly, and in comparison to Arra he was a giant. He kept his dark hair slicked back without a single strand out of place, and was built. The vampire was a real stick in the mud due to his insane amount of logic. He didn't quite catch sarcasm well, and was obsessed with keeping order. He and Arra had been together for a few centuries when they met watching Romeo and Juliet in the 1600s.

Arra's eyes were trained on me, and her heart shaped face was sad. It made me anxious as she prepared to speak.

"Bella," she sighed her eyes bored into my skull, "I am sorry to inform you of your father, Charlie's, passing. His funeral is in two days," she announced.

My heart lurched even though I had known this would happen. The last time I went and saw him he had been in bad shape. Ever since his heart attack about a year ago everything had been going downhill for my tired dad. I had been watching him ever since my descent into vampirism, and always kept a close eye on him. Whenever he needed money, it would just appear on his kitchen table, or when he couldn't make it to the grocery store he would suddenly find he did not need to. I also left him tons of gifts on his door step, and he had no clue where they came from. He just figured he had a guardian angel watching over him and that kept him happy.

My body shook as invisible tears made their way down my face. I opened my mouth to speak, but found only a loud cry could escape it. The next thing I realized was Arra holding me and rocking me back and forth. I never thought how painful losing Charlie would be. After what seemed to be hours I managed to pull myself from Arra.

"He lived a good life, Bella. You took very good care of him," Arra soothed as I shook my head.

"I should have been there with him. He had no one, Arra, I was it for him," I replied as guilt washed over me.

Arra's face fell and her eyes shut tight. I knew she was feeling guilty also, "I am sorry, Bella. I should have protected you from this non-life," Arra whispered.

"No," I said regaining control of myself, "It was no one's fault that I am what I am. I have always been destined for this, and I won't have anyone feeling guilty over me," I said strongly pulling myself from Arra.

"I will attend the funeral," I stated.

"Then Lewis and I shall accompany you. No, Sally, you will remain here," Arra replied to my statement and answered Sally's thoughts.

Mind reading was Arra's second power, and like Edward she couldn't read my mind. I was a curiosity to her, and she loved watching me. She said it finally gave her a chance to actually read facial expressions, and put her psychology degree to some use.

"Why must I remain here? Will you ever trust me around the humans, Arra? I want to go!" Sally demanded with a scowl on her twelve year old face.

Sally had a temper and had been changed at the youngest age of any of us. She was forever stuck in her twelve year old body, but she doesn't seem to mind it. Her mind works differently than normal vampires. Since she never matured, she still has a childish way of thinking, yet her experience over the centuries makes her more brilliant than your typical child. She had the hardest time keeping in control than the rest of us because of this way of thinking.

The Irish twelve year old acted way past her age, flirting and catching guys ranging from fourteen to thirty. Also having a large vocabulary, she surprised most people; some not even understanding what she said, but that was how Sally preferred it. She liked to watch people squirm, a trait that displeased Arra immensely.

"I have not forgotten the unsolved murder of Grieg Oyde. Oh, how his mother cried!" Arra replied softly in a firm but distressed voice appropriate for her small stature.

"I've already said I was sorry for that, and I wouldn't do it again!" Sally replied raising her voice, as it climbed a few octaves. Her Irish accent showed brightly in her voice, which she was usually able to keep hidden.

Arra let out a frustrated sigh as a blank look took over her face. The family knew that the small century old teenager was taking control of time. Unfortunately, it had the limit of only a few years in the past or future. She could take any of us with her, but we always had to return to our original time since Arra wasn't strong enough to keep us in a certain time for more than an hour.

"Alright, you may accompany us, Sally, but behave yourself," she replied with a warm smile, but there was something else in her smile that I couldn't identify.

"Let us prepare then, including Almanzo and Grace. Pack all that you can get. We are going to be moving to the house in Washington," Arra continued excitedly.

Suddenly she whipped towards me, "And Bella, I believe it is time you went back to school to be around humans once again," said Arra her smile widening turning towards the rest of the family, "and, of course, we are not letting her go alone. We will all be returning to school!"

"Really," Lewis' confused voice rang cutting off the conversations that had started up, "What have you done?"

"Of course, you will be a junior. I do not think you could pass as a freshman that Bella and I will be. Sally will begin the seventh grade," answered Arra coolly, ignoring the last question from Lewis.

Suddenly I felt sick. Arra must have had Almanzo sign us up. The thought of taking a human life instantly plagued my mind. I could picture someone in my shoes crying over their lost loved ones all because I couldn't control myself. I shook my head. I had to get her to withdraw me. I looked up to see Arra staring at me intently.

"Bella," Arra said sounding displeased with me, "you should have more confidence in yourself! You have spent enough time away from people, nearly four decades!"

"I know, it's just…I don't want to hurt, let alone kill anyone," I replied earning an understanding look from my family.

"Listen, it is hard at first, but after you gain more experience you will get better. Right now I believe it is your time to begin," Arra replied in a warm yet forceful voice.

I sighed trusting in Arra, "All right," I caved.

Arra smiled, "Do not worry, now go pack your things," she ordered in a polite manner.

I nodded and swiftly went up the stairs to do as she said. My attire consisted of long-sleeved sweaters, brand-named shirts, and a few crew cut shirts. I also wore nothing but blue jeans and several dresses for special occasions. Every article of clothing I owned tended to show off my body from my hour glass figure to my beautifully sculpted legs. I kept a lot of gloves as well considering my power. I packed up everything.

When I finished, I walked downstairs to find Lewis and Arra, their hands clasped together, with an excited Sally beaming up at me.

Sally had such a lively and semi-positive outlook on life. The only thing she regretted was not being able to drive her car legally. Almanzo would always pick on her about that, and she in return would only scowl. A few years ago she'd scratched up his car with her house key, which led into a huge brawl between the two. Arra had to split them up, and punished Sally and Almanzo because she knew he'd been teasing Sally. Those two you couldn't put into a room alone without an argument brewing.

"We will be leaving now, Grace, Almanzo!" Arra said in a business like voice while I walked outside.

I noticed there were only two of the seven vehicles we owned in the garage. I assumed Arra had already taken the rest. The cars were all specially designed by Grace and were solar powered. At night they ran on spare energy from two batteries that gathered energy from the sun the day before. We were the only ones who had these cars since if we revealed Grace's discovery it would draw us to much attention. Gas was becoming a hard thing to come by recently. Now the humans traveled in tacky, solar powered vehicles that could only go forty mph, and it didn't bode well with my family.

We went to Arra's car. The black BMW was her baby, and she loved that car considering how much work her and Grace had put in it. Its speedometer was over 200 mph thanks to Grace's technological genius, and was probably the fastest on Earth. We put the luggage into the back of the car, and climbed in with Sally and me in the front and Lewis and Arra in back. I could see the uneasy look in Arra's eyes about Sally being in the driver's seat. I figured that Almanzo and Grace would take the second car.

I watched as the speedometer inched past the hundreds and entered the two-hundreds. If I were human seeing a twelve year old girl driving past one hundred miles an hour, I would have died, but I was used to it. I sighed, as I watched the blur outside my window my thoughts full of memories of my father. It was twilight two days later, when we finally arrived at the Washington Manor.

I'd never really seen the inside of the house before, but as I entered into the unnaturally large front doors, I found myself in a large room. A lovely white grand piano sat on the left accompanied with a large fireplace on the right. It had almost as much books as the library at the Wyoming mansion, but it was short maybe a few thousand books or so. I saw a large couch with a large rug under it complementing the polished wooden floors nicely. Lastly, I noticed a set of drums near the piano and I was curious. I didn't know who played the drums. We didn't have any back home.

"Arra," I heard Sally gasp when her eyes set upon the drum set.

"You are quite welcome, Sally," Arra replied with a warm, happy look in her eyes.

"Oh, Arra, you are so good to me! I don't deserve all the patience you have for me!" Sally nearly shouted turning her wild, excited eyes towards Arra.

"May I?" she asked.

"Knock yourself out, kiddo!" Almanzo shouted, patting the girl on her back as he and Grace just got there behind them.

She hated being called 'kiddo' especially by Almanzo. Almanzo was basically an overgrown kid who enjoyed his video games, and pulling ridiculous pranks ranging from the stupidly simple to the rocket scientist complicated. He was a lanky, slender fellow who was never without a smile, and kept his hair a tousled, unbrushed look. He may look like he is a sophisticated gentleman playing the part of a loving father, but he was really just a trouble maker.

"Almanzo!" she growled causing him to chuckle, but she was in a good mood and simply waved it off bounding gracefully towards the drum set.

"Bella, darling, please follow me," Arra called quietly as the playing of the drums erupted.

I nodded and followed her. She led me up the right set of stairs. There were two sets one on the right and one on the left with a walkway at the top connecting them. Underneath this walkway were two large doors that no doubt would lead to the ballroom. I couldn't wait to see it, and tour the house in its entirety. As we walked down the hall, I studied each of the paintings on the wall we passed when suddenly I could have sworn my dead heart started beating again.

"Bella?" said Arra's worried voice, and I knew she had caught me. I was normally good at keeping my depressed mind under control, but now it had been pushed to insanity.

"Arra, who is in this painting?" I asked my voice quivering.

She continued to look at me with a worried expression as she followed my eyes to the painting. She took in my pained expression a little strangely, and I suddenly realized why she didn't even seem unnerved by my behavior. Arra can be a bit more reliable than Alice is when predicting the future. Arra is able to witness it first-hand.

"Tell me what you know!" I said quickly, turning to face her.

I knew it was rude for me to make demands after all she had done for me. I expected her to seem offended, but her expression was calm and unsurprised.

"I do not know what you mean," she said, holding up her hand closing her eyes her palm facing me as if she were swearing.

I threw her a disbelieving look before looking at my right hand, when suddenly understanding flickered in Arra's eyes. She knew what I was beginning to plan.

I believe I saw anger in those normally gentle white murky irises of hers as her hands suddenly became fists. I have taken her powers away from her once, something she will never forget. She never showed it, but her thoughts revealed it.

"Do not even think about it, Isabella!" she hissed at me as my plan suddenly dissolved. I sighed.

My thoughts went back to the painting on the wall as it hurt me more than Charlie's death. There in the painting was a family of seven vampires, two adults and five teenagers that I recognized as Esme, Carlisle, Rosalie, Emmett, Jasper, Alice, and…Edward. The entire Cullen family was staring at me, haunting my thoughts.

"Bella, I know all about them," I heard Arra murmur.

"You? You knew all this time?" I asked astonished.

I had been so careful not to let anyone know. I have always guarded my emotions and expressions. I didn't want anyone to know about my heartbreak and my empty body. I did my best not to mope, but to be happy around my family. They now meant everything to me, and I did my best to keep from worrying them.

Arra nodded meekly, "Yes, I did not need mind reading powers to tell something had disturbed you when I first met you. I went back in time to your human life to get some insight on you, and found out about him. I thought I had taken down that painting," she replied, the last part directed at herself.

"You haven't told anyone else have you?" I asked hopeful that she would say no.

She kept a straight face, "I have told only Lewis, but that is all," she replied honestly.

I nodded. I could trust Lewis. He was more of an adult figure to me than a brother, "Does our family know the Cullens?" I asked in a hoarse voice.

"Yes, we know the Cullens with Carlisle being as close to Aro as he was. He used to come to our regular parties at our first home with the Volturi until he came to the United States. He truly was a breath of fresh air! He was another vampire sharing in the belief of animal blood. But when he left, I ended up wanting to follow him to the new world, and I built another home in Alaska where Sasha's daughters now reside. We even had the girls stay with us for about half a decade," explained Arra, looking into my eyes, wanting to get into my mind.

I stared at her my face blank with this unknown information now trying to push its way into my brain. They all knew the Cullens! It was ringing in my head, and was unable to get it out. A sick feeling suddenly erupted in my belly. I should have known since Arra knows almost every civilized vampire coven.

"I was going to tell you later at a less delicate time. Edward and Carlisle are the only two I have seen in person if it helps any, but the others are new faces to me. This painting was done over 60 years ago and given to me by Carlisle, but he did not bring his family," Arra informed me now talking to herself more than me.

"I do not know why. I would have loved to have met them!" she continued.

"They are very sweet," I said in a slow moody voice adding a dramatic sigh at the end.

Arra took my hand, and when I looked at her she was staring at me with a sad expression, "I am very sorry," she said, "Maybe my original intent will cheer you up. Please, follow me."

I nodded forgetting Arra had wanted to show me something. She turned and opened a door, "This is your room!" she announced with a large grin.

I couldn't contain my gasp, "It's beautiful Arra!" I exclaimed.

The room had two large windows in it revealing that it had started raining, not surprising since this town isn't far from Forks. It was decorated much like a living room with a bed, complete with a large bathroom hooked on it, and a closet stock full of new clothes that I wondered if I could even fit my old clothes into it. The bed was a king sized with a crimson comforter and a billion pillows. There was also a vanity that matched it. A living room set arranged expertly around a large flat screen sat on the other side of the room.

"Thank you, Arra! I love it!" I said, reaching over to hug her when I heard Sally come up.

"Well!" she nearly shouted, as she flung herself into my room giving a nod of satisfaction before coming up to me with her hands up in a hugging gesture wanting her hug, which I gave her and laughed.

"What do you think? We added the bed because we know how much you love them," the red head said excitedly, still admiring her work.

"I think it is wonderful Sally, and that you both did an amazing job! I am one lucky vampire!" I replied with a large smile as I began to slowly recover from my hallway experience thanks to my family.

"You are," agreed Arra kindheartedly, a small twinkle in her eye as she smiled warmly at me.
