Most of Gotham's citizens knew about the terrible night, where Joe Chill shot Thomas and Martha Wayne, which led to Bruce Wayne becoming Batman. However, most people didn't know about the other family, that suffered a very similar tragedy.

Joe Chill wasn't the only criminal in Gotham, who was causing trouble. Back then, Slade Wilson, was just a petty thief. This was before he became Deathstroke, one of the world's most dangerous criminals. Slade Wilson and Joe Chill often worked together and robbed various people.

One night, Slade and Joe were going through a stroll around Gotham, while looking for good places to rob. Slade looked around and saw Gotham's film theater. He said, "A big film came out today, so there's going to be lots of people coming out of the theater. I'm sure we'll plenty of people to rob."

Joe replied, "Sounds good." He pointed to the right side of the street and said, "I'll go over there, while you cover the other side of the street."

Slade responded, "Okay then." He waved goodbye and started walking across the street. He didn't look as excited, as most criminals would. He felt bad about the situation, but it wasn't because he felt guilty. It's because he felt his criminal career wasn't as impressive, as it should be. He was a smart, strong, cunning villain, so he deserved a better lifestyle, than do robbing passer-buyers."

Slade looked around and saw a young girl, named Lee Pershing. She had blonde hair and had finished watching a film with her parents. Lee looked at the sky. It was dark out, but she didn't know what time it was. She gently tugged her mom's jacket and said, "Mom, do you know what time it is?"

The mom smiled and replied, "That reminds me, that your father and I got you a little gift."

Lee asked, "Really?"

The mom said, "You're often wondering what times it is, when there isn't a watch nearby. Because of that, we have a solution." She handed Lee a fancy-looking, black pocket-watch.

The dad looked at Lee and said, "Keep track of time, because you never know when what time it will be, when the most memorable moments hit you."

Slade stepped out of the shadows. He had a smug smile on his face, while saying, "Hi there. You look like folks, who have a good amount of cash. Because of that, I'm expecting to become rich."

Lee and her parents could tell Slade was dangerous. Lee desperately hoped her parents wouldn't make a scene. She didn't care that much, if Slade robbed them. Her primary concern was getting out of there.

Although Lee's dad was a wealthy businessman, he didn't make the wisest of decisions. He angrily looked at Slade and said, "You need to cut the crap, you punk. I've worked hard, to make my family wealthy. I'm not going to lose all of that, because of some random, petty thief."

Slade shook his head and replied, "You misunderstand. I'm not some plain thief. I'm Slade Wilson, the stroke of your nightmares. I was a bit disappointed about how boring this night was, so I should be thanking you, for making it more exciting." While Joe Chill shot Bruce Wayne's parents, Slade eliminated Lee's parents.

Slade looked at Lee. He didn't have the nerve to harm her, because he had kids of his own. He took Lee's parent's wallets and ran away, while doing an evil laugh.

A few minutes later, the police came by. Lee explained the situation to them, while having tears come down her eyes. The police felt sorry for her and brought her to the police station, while trying to call Lee's other relatives.

Lee was seated to Bruce. The two children had dealt with the same kind of tragedy. Both of them had sad looks on their faces. Bruce looked at Lee, who looked just as heartbroken as him. Instead of making the sadness keep going, the young boy hoped he could make this moment a little lighter. He eyed her pocket-watch and said, "That's a very pretty watch."

Lee wiped tears off her face and replied, "Thank you. This is a gift from my parents, the last gift they ever gave me."

Bruce responded, "Then that seems like something to keep, forever."

Lee replied, "I will." She paused and said, "So, you're Bruce Wayne?"

Bruce said, "Yeah."

Lee asked, "The richest kid in Gotham?" Bruce shrugged his shoulders. Lee said, "My family's wealthy too. Of course, wealth doesn't compare to the love of others."

Bruce replied, "I couldn't agree more." In order to make the crying stop, Bruce and Lee talked to each other and talked about less-heavy topics, for several minutes.

Eventually, Alfred Pennyworth came by. He had a friendly smile on his face, while walking closer to Bruce and saying, "Tonight's incident was terrible, but I don't want you to worry, Master Wayne. I'm going to take care of you."

Bruce replied, "Thank you, Alfred."

Alfred asked, "Are you ready to go?"

Bruce said, "I just need to say goodbye, to a friend." He looked at Lee and said, "I wish a better future for you."

Lee replied, "I wish you the same." She hugged him, while saying, "Thank you."

Bruce had a confused look on his face, while asking, "What are you thanking me for?"

Lee answered, "For making the tears go away."

Bruce replied, "You're welcome."

Lee was adopted by her grandparents, who raised her, while living in the Pershing family's mansion. Although her grandparents were excited by their home, Lee wasn't in a good time. Her talk with Bruce comforted her, but she still felt sadness in her heart. She often sat on her bedroom's bed, while staring at the pocket-watch. The pocket-watch was a reminder of the eternal her parents had for her and it gave her sentimental moments of her moment with Bruce.

One day, Lee was given a school assignment, about writing her life goals. On her list of goals, she wrote she wanted to avenge her parents, to get revenge on Slade Wilson, and to see Bruce again. Lee didn't have any goals, that were about a future career. Her remaining family members inherited a ton of money, so she didn't have to worry about making money. Besides, she didn't care that much about money.

Several years later, Bruce Wayne left Gotham, to do some special types of fight training. Lee was a little sad about Bruce leaving. She didn't know if Bruce would be returning to Gotham, so she was worried she wouldn't get to see him.

After a few years of training, Bruce returned to Gotham. By then, Lee had graduated college. When Bruce returned to Gotham, Lee was among a huge crowd of people, who were welcoming Bruce back to Gotham. Lee only came there, so she could see Bruce again. She doubted Bruce would notice her, but she decided to give it a try.

Bruce greeted several people, but one person caught his attention: Julie Madison. Bruce and Julie kissed and went into a limo, before driving away. Lee sighed, while having a disappointed look on her face. However, Bruce and Julie's relationship only lasted a few days.

A few weeks later, Bruce became Batman. Several people were impressed, by Gotham's new hero. There was a countless amount of people, who were trying to find out who Batman really was.

However, it was easy for Lee to piece together. She was quick to note, that Batman first appeared, a short time after Bruce returned to Gotham. Also, Bruce had left Gotham to learn fighting skills, which is something a superhero would need, not a rich playboy. Lee still felt a sentimental connection to Bruce, so she didn't tell her relatives the truth.

Lee's friend becoming a crime-fighting vigilante was something, that Lee considered to be inspirational. Instead of being sad and reflecting on the tragedies of life, Bruce had moved on, with time. He had become a symbol of hope, even if he was darker than Superman, who was the only other superhero, at the time.

Lee was far different than Bruce. Bruce was interested in protecting Gotham, by stopping as many criminals as possible. Lee was just interested in stopping Slade Wilson. Slade had left Gotham and had been causing trouble in Jump City. Instead of moving there, Lee decided to stay in Gotham. She planned on getting revenge on Slade, when he returned to Gotham.

A year later, Slade Wilson moved to Gotham, so he could help Gotham's mob bosses eliminate their competition. By then, Slade was known as Deathstroke. Deathstroke was the infamous arch-enemy of the Teen Titans, as well as someone, who Batman had dealt with before. Deathstroke was one of the most powerful and deadliest criminals in the world. Deep down, Batman was a little afraid, that his fighting skills weren't as good.

Lee decided it was time, for her to have another identity. Her pocket-watch inspired her new theme. She became the Clock Queen. She traveled to a blacksmith and had the blacksmith make a sword, that was shaped like a clock.

A few days later, Lee was going for a walk, around Gotham, while wearing a brown dress. During her walk, she bumped into Bruce Wayne, who was wearing a brown suit. Bruce had an amused look, while pointing at their outfits and saying, "We match."

Lee replied, "That seems fitting, considering we match in other ways."

Bruce looked confused, while asking, "What do you mean?"

Lee sighed and said, "You shouldn't put too much thought into it. We've met before, but I doubt you remember me. Actually, getting to see you again is something I wanted to, ever since that day." She felt awkward, while saying, "I can hardly believe I admitted that."

Bruce put his hand on his chin, while asking, "When did we meet?"

Lee said, "When we were kids. We both lost our parents, on the same night."

Bruce replied, "Lee Pershing, it's good to see you again."

Lee had a flattered look on her face, while asking, "You remember me?"

Bruce said, "I sure do. After dealing with that horrible tragedy, you brought me a great deal of comfort."

Lee shook her head and replied, "I should be thanking you, instead of the other around. I had a non-stop amount of tears and just getting to talk to a caring person, like yourself, was a big help."

Bruce asked, "How have you been, since then?"

Lee sighed and said, "Not the best. I haven't done much, that's noteworthy or special. My accomplishments could hardly compare to yours."

Bruce replied, "My accomplishments aren't that great. After all, I'm Gotham's most infamous playboy."

Lee said, "Yeah right. I know you're more than that."

Bruce replied, "Glad to meet someone, who feels that way. I'm used to meeting women, who want to throw their drinks at me. It's debatable, if I deserve it."

Lee jokingly responded, "You had it coming. I'm going to get a drink." She nervously chuckled and said, "I'm sorry. It's hard to explain it, but when I'm around you, life feels lighter."

Bruce could relate to Lee, since he had gone through similar moments of darkness. He wanted to make things brighter for her and he could use some cheering up, so he said, "How about getting cup of coffee with me?"

Lee jokingly asked, "Can I throw it in your face?"

Bruce said, "After what I've done, you can throw a gallon of coffee at me."

Bruce and Lee started walking to a nearby coffee shop. They went inside and both of them ordered a cup of coffee. Bruce drank a few sips of the coffee, before signaling to the waiter and saying, "This coffee's too hot."

The waiter had an annoyed look on his face, while asking, "Really?" He grabbed the coffee and threw it in his face. The waiter said, "That should warm up the heart, that you haven't been using."

Lee replied, "Excuse me, waiter."

The waiter angrily asked, "What do you want?"

Lee answered, "My friend and I wanted good service, not a quick-tempered jerk." The waiter was so upset, that he grabbed Lee's cup of coffee and was going throw it in her face, but Lee used her clock-shaped sword, to cut the cup apart.

Bruce said, "Nice moves, but where did the sword come from?"

Lee said, "I carried the sword in my purse." Bruce raised an eyebrow. Lee said, "It's for protection. Considering how dangerous Gotham is, you've gotta be prepared."

Bruce smirked and replied, "I better act like a gentleman, unless I want to face the wrath of your sword."

Lee jokingly responded, "You better watch out."

Deathstroke walked into the coffee shop. Bruce and Lee were very surprised to see him, along with everybody else. One of the coffee shop's customers was a gangster, that Deathstroke was hired to eliminate. After getting rid of the gangster, Deathstroke walked out, while having an evil smile on his face.

Lee looked at Bruce and said, "I need to get going."

Bruce replied, "Me too."

Lee said, "Before I go, let me give you a proper goodbye." She pretended like she was going to kiss Bruce, before facing his ear and whispering, "Let me take care of Deathstroke, Batman." Bruce was shocked, that Lee called her Batman. He wondered if he should deny it, but he knew Lee was smart, so he struggled to come up with a form of denial.

Lee went into a nearby alley. She grabbed a black suit, out of her purse, and changed into it. She put the pocket-watch in her jacket and she put on a clock-shaped top hat. She grabbed her clock-shaped sword and started charging after Deathstroke. Now, she was the Clock Queen. She ran around and tried to find out where Deathstroke was going. She looked up and saw that Deathstroke was climbing up a building, with the help of a ladder. The Clock Queen used the same ladder, to get up the same building.

Deathstroke turned around and saw the Clock Queen. He took a look at her clock-themed look and said, "It's time to lose your stupid gimmick."

The Clock Queen sternly replied, "You need to shut up, Mr. Wilson. You owe me more than you can ever imagine."

Deathstroke asked, "What the heck are you talking about?"

The Clock Queen said, "I'm Lee Pershing. Based on that name, you probably remember who I am."

Deathstroke replied, "Yeah right."

The Clock Queen shook her fist at him and responded, "Don't deny the obvious. The Pershing family was one of Gotham's wealthiest families."

Deathstroke replied, "I'm an assassin, not Gotham's historian. I don't give a crap about you or your family's legacy."

The Clock Queen used her clock-shaped sword, to hit Deathstroke. She said, "You ruined my family's legacy, by taking my parents away from me. You took away the two people, who meant the most to me. How could you be such an evil monster?"

Deathstroke coldly asked, "Do you think I care about some random family, who I only saw once? I only care about people, who benefit me. Otherwise, the rest of humanity doesn't affect me."

The Clock Queen pointed her sword at Deathstroke and replied, "I'm going to make quite the impact on your life, Mr. Wilson. Since you took away my parents' lives, I'm going to make you lose yours."

Batman appeared on the rooftop. He ran up to the Clock Queen and said, "Lee, please don't murder Deathstroke."

The Clock Queen turned around and replied, "Greetings, Bruce Wayne."

Batman whispered, "You shouldn't say my name in front of the villain."

Deathstroke said, "I already know who you are, Batman." Deathstroke had hired Terra, to join the Teen Titans and pretend to be a part of their team, so she could find out their secret identities. From Terra, Deathstroke had learned Robin's secret identity, so it was easy to find out who Batman is.

Batman put his hand on the Clock Queen's shoulder and said, "Please don't become like Deathstroke."

The Clock Queen stubbornly replied, "Killing Deathstroke won't make me like him."

Batman responded, "You might be right about that, but that doesn't justify killing him. He kills people, for terribly petty and greedy reasons. You want to kill him for understandable reasons, which is sympathetic, but not honorable."

Deathstroke wasn't one to stand around. He considered fighting Batman and the Clock Queen. However, he felt he had nothing to gain from doing that, so he started running off the rooftop, so he could go make his next hit. Batman noticed that, so he threw a knock-out bomb at him and used his grappling hook, to catch him.

The Clock Queen looked at Batman and asked, "Do you think making him pass out and trapping him in rope is enough to stop him? Deathstroke's one of the most dangerous criminals, that Gotham's ever dealt with. If you want to stop his reign of villainy, more extreme measures have to be taken. I know you're opposed to killing, but Deathstroke has it coming."

Batman replied, "Believe me, I wish he wasn't around. However, in order to bring respect to my parents' legacy, I decided to embrace justice, not revenge. My parents got killed, because of a criminal's careless nature on guns. In order to keep myself from becoming like Joe Chill, I fight criminals and I give them a good beating, but I never kill them. There's been several criminals, who I was tempted to eliminate, but I always resisted that temptation."

The Clock Queen had tears coming down her eyes, while saying, "I'm a disgrace to my parents, aren't I?"

Batman shook his head and said, "No you're not. Although you were tempted to destroy Deathstroke, you didn't do that."

The Clock Queen replied, "That's because of you. If you hadn't come along, I would of killed him, which would of been a terrible mistake. I'm a disgrace, aren't I?"

Batman put his hand over her shoulder and responded, "No, you honor your parents' memory." He pulled the pocket-watch out of her jacket and said, "You still keep this around. You've never forgotten or taken for granted the love, that your parents gave you. I can relate to that. The lessons and acts of love your parents gave you will always be in your heart. Hold on, to their words of encouragement. They'll always be there for you, in your heart."

The Clock Queen cried more tears, while saying, "I really appreciate it, but I still feel alone."

Batman sat next to her, while saying, "I'm here." The Clock Queen hugged her. Her sad tears started turning into happy tears. She looked at her pocket-watch. She knew this moment would be remembered in her heart, no matter how much time passed. She continued staring at the watch, while continuing her hug with Batman. She had been hugging him for five minutes, but she felt it would never be time to let go.
