The Idea of You and Me

Trixie had never, in even the smallest way, felt any inclination of romantic feelings towards Spud. He was her friend, and her feelings for him had always been strictly platonic. They got along well enough, when he wasn't driving her crazy, but she and Spud were too different for a romantic thought to even cross her mind in regard to him. Which is why the Oracle Twins prediction caught her so off guard. Her and Spud tie the knot? They must be trippin'! Who could possibly think that would work out? Without a serious thought to the relationship, Trixie set forth on the task of proving one, just one, of the oracles' predictions false. They couldn't be right all the time, could they?

But as prediction after prediction came to pass, sometimes in almost ridiculous ways, Trixie began to reconcile herself to the idea of her and Spud. If the twins always predicted truth, she might as well accept her fate as gracefully as possible; which is not to say she was happy about it. Nonetheless, it surprised her how easily they fell into the mold of a married couple without any attempt to do so. She lectured him on his eating habits and felt pleased when he listened to her, albeit grudgingly. A blend of amusement and exasperation filled her when the age-old "communication" issue arose in the form of family dinners. He begged for a honeymoon in Bora Bora and her maternal instincts arose in response to their hypothetical kids. Their relationship quickly became a surprisingly comfortable combination of concern and frustration. She had put the idea of a false prediction so far from her mind, that when the prediction finally took place, her brain almost didn't register the occurrence. She and Spud weren't going to get married; she was going to tie a knot in his shoelaces. It was almost comical. She instantly showed her elation at once again being a free woman, her happiness –and her common sense—quickly squelching the small but suspicious twinge she felt in her stomach. The annoying feeling managed to return briefly when Spud mentioned Bora Bora, but she once again replaced it, this time with annoyance at her friend's clueless nature.

After Jake rescued the twins, the "tying the knot" incident was all but forgotten, the trio's friendship reverting back to normalcy. Trixie started telling herself that she had gotten a little caught up, that was all. Nothing to do with Spud in the least. Or their potential relationship. So every time a more-than-friendly thought popped into her head in regards to the somewhat slow brunette, she internally repeated that it was all in her head. Just a psychological response to a shocking idea. She was merely running away with a thought that had been planted in her mind. End of story. Nothing to worry about.
