Disclaimer; I do not own Emmerdale. If I did...

The song is Resentment by Beyoncé.

It had been one year and twenty-six days since Jackson had left. 391 days since he'd packed his bags and drove away from Emmerdale, vowing never to return. There'd been no fuss made, no last-minute change of heart, no tears, no pain, nothing. Just numbness. His mother cried when he left, oh boy did she cry, but she understood. She could tell that he wasn't happy, that the sparkle in his eye had gone and been replaced by something else, something much darker. Resentment.

I thought I could forgive you and I know you've changed

As much as I wanna trust you I know it isn't the same

And it's all because you lied.

They'd tried to get past it, they really had. They'd talked it over so many times, always ending up in tears. Eventually, they began to smile, to laugh, to love again. But every night they would both lay awake, both trapped in their own personal hell. Aaron imagined the night in question every time he closed his eyes. The dark club, Jackson's absence, the ice cold drink sliding down his throat, the cute blonde by the bar, the blonde buying him a drink, then another...

I wish I could believe you then I'll be alright

But now everything you told me really don't apply

To the way I feel inside.

Jackson had been working that night. His job ran late and he decided to give the night out a miss, preferring to slob out in front of the TV with a can of beer. He'd pushed Aaron into going without him, told him he should enjoy himself, look after Sol when he got too drunk. Aaron had laughed, promised to behave himself and not drink too much. he'd to get up early for work the next morning and he definitely didn't need a hangover. But that night, a shot of tequila turned into a bottle, smiles turned into winks, kisses into groping, groping into... well, you get the picture. Aaron had never considered himself a cheat. Never. But that night something took hold of his body, something made him seek out that cute blonde and follow him home. And something made him forget all about his boyfriend waiting for him at home...
