Hi there! So this story was written for the 'Title Swap' Competition III
Feel free to review: I have never written from Severus Snape's POV so it will be very interesting to see what you think!
He knew love.
Or at least, he thought he did.
Love (verb)
feeling tender affection for somebody, such as a close relative or friend
He loved Lily. She was more than a friend. Far, far more.
His 'relatives' were viewed by him as being people he shared a house with reluctantly. They were simply people (strangers, really) who raised their voices and their fists often at him, trying to force him vainly into doing their bidding.
He would never insult Lily by calling her a 'close relative'. She deserved far more than that.
She deserved the honour of being his family. She was by no means his sister, but she was all of his family.
Lily was a thousand times better than his 'relatives' put together and then some.
Love (verb)
to feel desire, romantically and sexually, for someone
He wanted Lily to be his forever.
They were soul-mates; he believed that beyond doubt.
He knew it because their patronuses were the same.
Love (verb)
to long for somebody
He longed for Lily. Always.
When he was alone in the cold Slytherin dormitories, surrounded by people who were convinced they were superior.
When he was at home, doing his best to keep out of the way.
When she was laughing in the way she did, by throwing her head back, her brilliant hair shimmering copper and red and gold as her addictive, unstoppable laugh made her tremble, at something someone else had said, that was when his longing for her grew to be too much. It consumed him until he thought he might explode with the pressure.
He wanted to be the one, the only one, to make her laugh like that.
He longed to have her, all to himself, day and night.
Love (verb)
to like somebody very much
Like and Lily didn't belong in the same sentence.
You couldn't just like Lily. You had to love her, because to love Lily was to love the most glorious, most beautiful of angels.
He supposed that if like was a form of love, that he did like Lily, a lot, but he knew the truth.
He couldn't like Lily because he had to love her.
Love (verb)
to show kindness to somebody
Lily showed kindness to him.
That, he knew, meant that she loved him.
Love (noun)
passionate, intense attraction and desire
Lily was beautiful beyond words.
Beyond description.
Beyond imagining.
She was golden.
She was her fiery temper that rose to defend what she believed in, but would soften out to sincerity and pure kind-heartedness if she deemed you worthy of her goodness.
She was her spellbinding, engaging emerald green eyes that haunted you wherever you go.
She was her stubbornness, and her recklessness, and her sheer love of life.
She was her warmth, and her desire to know everything she could.
She was her muggle-born status that she wore with pride, because it was obvious to all who had the luck of knowing her that she had an advantage you could never imagine.
She was a magnet that pulled him to her.
Love (noun)
something that elicits enthusiasm
Lily could make everything better.
Just knowing she was near made him stand up straighter.
Made the tension that wore him down roll off of his shoulders.
Made him smile, and feel giddy excitement.
Made him hope.
He always wanted to see Lily.
Love (noun)
beloved
Lily, his beloved.
