Summary: Saavik's savage let's loose its
grief.
Saying Goodbye to a Friend G
Saavik set a second lantern into the water and watched it drift Away this was for her friend David Marcus. He was human so it was fitting to use this ceremony to say goodbye. He was a rare man one she had not known long. She knew he would have liked to have been more then a friend but she had not been able to return his feelings. Still he was a friend and a good man. She sighed softly as the lantern drifted away. Perhaps it was also her way of admitting that she would only ever love one being. Only one would ever be called her Thayla.
Sulu watched as the colorful lattern drifted away. He knew it was for David Marcus as Saavik had told Him. He thought it a fitting tribute to Captain Kirk's son. The youth had been a fine and brave man. One he wished he had known better. A son any man would be proud to claim. He looked across the way and watched as his former captain held his ex-wife's hand. They to had come here to say goodbye. It was a shame really as Saavik would have made a great addition to Kirk's family. He said nothing however as she walked away her emotions firmly under control. Sulu looked over and noted that Captain Kirk had been watching them. He nodded at him and turned taking Carol away. Perhaps he to was saddened by what might have been. Sulu just hoped that this tragedy would draw Carol and Jim together once more for each would need the others support. Unlike Saavik he knew they could not simply let go.
Saavik walked away to find a place to meditate this letting go was an important step but she would need to meditate on it to be certain she could go on. She had never lost a friend before and in many ways it was harder to let go of David then her father. Was this what Spock meant when he said friends were a blessing and a Burdon? She had never understood and somehow this lesson had to be given to her by a Kirk? She wondered if this was the reason Spock had sacrificed himself? Because it was easier to die oneself then to lose a friend? At last she understood and knew in her heart she would rather lose her own life then to lose an other friend. It was illogical but, the truth all the same. It seemed humans brought out the emotion in even Vulcans.
