"For Sale; Baby Shoes Never Worn"
Ambulance sirens getting louder as they approach the scene. Firefighters and police officers arrive earlier still trying to get Abigail free. This is a night the Pents' will never forget.
(2 months earlier)
Nathan and Abigail Pent are two happily married and caring people living in a house they just recently purchased. They now live in a new house, new neighborhood, hold new jobs, and have a third member on the way; a baby boy named Elijah Troy Pent. Nathan is a full-time construction worker and Abigail is a schoolteacher at a local elementary school. Because they wanted to know the neighbors better, they decided to invite the neighbors on the block to a party.
After living in their household for a month, they now have friends to socialize with. The Pents are frequently invited to neighborly functions, like Sunday football games, BBQs, birthdays, etc. Nathan has been promoted to construction manager and is now making more money, so he decides to get the baby's clothes and necessities. Abigail is now 3 months pregnant and showing, so she has taken her leave from work to take care of herself and the baby. The family is happy and loving the new life they have created for themselves.
A month goes by in a flash and the Pents are invited to a wedding in which Nathan is the 'Best Man'. They get dressed and leave on this beautiful afternoon drive. After hours of dancing and laughing, the two decide to head home for the night. Once outside they soon find out that its wet and raining, thunder crashing, and lightening striking. They get in the car and start driving. They stop at a red light, it turns green and they proceed, however, a car has lost control and smashes into Abigail's side door pinning her under the dashboard. Sirens can be heard as firefighters try to pry her out the car. Once free, the medics transport her to the nearest ER, there they treat her wounds and give her surgery.
After a couple days at the hospital, Abigail and Nathan are told that 4-month-old Elijah is dead. They leave, still grieving the death of their child. Overwhelmed by the news, Abigail later takes her life with a overdose, and medics can't save her. Nathan later found a note she left, it said, "Nathan, now I can see who our baby would have grown to be, I love you". Nathan eventually puts the baby's clothes and items up for sale, except the first pair of shoes Elijah would have worn. When Elijah was buried, they buried him with those shoes, and on his gravestone it stated, "Here lies the body of 4-month-old Elijah Troy Pent, and with him are the shoes he could never wear".
