It was an even match. Ash and his opponent were both down to one Pokemon each. It was time for the final decision.
"Pikachu, time for your thunder wave attack! Rush to the right and defeat him!" Ash yelled without noticing his fatal mistake. Ash's opponent did not fail to realize this and smirked with pride. "Nice try. But not good enough." With one wave of his arm, Ash's opponent attacked without mercy. The match was over and the clouds came on as Ash fell to his knees in disappointment.

"I can't believe I lost!" Ash wailed as he flopped onto his bed. Disappointed by the battle, Ash ran away to the confinement of his hotel room. "This was one of the most important battles in the world. The Rainbow League is incredibly important for any professional trainer! I can't believe I failed!" Ash banged his fist against his bed. Pikachu looked on sadly as his dear friend fell apart.
"Oh Ash! Get up and quit whining. So what if you lost? It doesn't matter. As long as you know you did your best!" Misty yelled at Ash in order to get him out of his dreary state. She looked at him with a sad face. Maybe her usual tough attitude wouldn't help...
"Misty...maybe Ash needs to be some time to think about this...I'll talk to him." Brock put his hand on Misty's shoulder as a sign that she should probably leave him to do the talking.
Misty understood what Brock said and left. "Come on Pikachu...maybe Brock's right." Pikachu the pair alone and the door shut.
A worried Brock looked over at Ash's sad state. Ash was sobbing uncontrolably now with his face down in the pillow. The soft patter of rain dripped near the window as to match the tears streaming on the face of depression. Brock then put his hand on Ash's shoulder.
"Hey, now...I know this was a very important battle for you Ash. Everyone did. But...you have to face reality as it is. You didn't win. I know, it's a horrible feeling." Brock looked on to Ash in order to see if his therapy was working.
"How can you understand? This was the one chance I could actually make myself known to the entire world. It could have been me up there receiving the Rainbow League award, me smiling to my proud mother, me waving to all my friends in victory, but it wasn't." Ash was now sitting upright in his bed to face Brock. Tears of anger and sadness washed all over his face. "How can you understand? Please, just leave me alone." Ash was about to turn his head down again, but Brock held his face.
"I know how you feel because I was there with you. All the step of the way. I could feel your excitements, your happiness, your fears, your worries, your sadness, and your disappointments. I always share your victories and pain. I know you. This is why I understand." Brock looked at him with all the sincerity of his heart and pulled Ash close to him. Ash felt the warmth of Brock radiating unto him and held onto Brock with love.
"Brock, I didn't know how much you cared..." Ash drifted off in silent bliss and sighed in Brock's arms. Two hearts, two minds, and two bodies were now joined together as one. A deep moment of silence embraced them. And as the clouds parted and the sun peeked through the windows of the room, a rainbow formed in the sky above.
