James bent up from his Transfiguration homework in time to see Lily coming in the portrait hole. Well, he thought, I might as well give them a try. Sirius had given him a list of pick-up lines he got out of a muggle magazine. James thought they were a bit cheesy, but Sirius thought if they worked on muggle women, why not witches? She was muggle-born, though, and that ought to help maybe a little. He watched her sink into one of the many armchairs and turn her attention to a note, and a piece of parchment he supposed was for the potions essay they had due for Monday. He ought to get started on that.
Bet the note's from Snivellus, he thought scathingly, probably explaining why she should be in Slytherin or why he's so ugly. The thought cheered him slightly, and he took a deep breath and walked over. Lily looked up when he came beside her, and narrowed her eyes. 'Hi.' he said. 'Hello, Potter.' An awkward silence took place for a few moments, then- 'Potter, what do you want?' she said, exasperated. 'As you can see, I am quite busy here.' She gestured toward her Potions homework.
He hesitated. 'Er...well, it's a good thing I brought my library card with me, because I'm checking you out.' He flushed slightly as her eyebrows rose. 'Very cute.' was her only response. He took that as good sign and continued. He picked up a bag or sugar (Lupin had hidden one behind every chair for this moment) 'You seemed to have dropped your nametag.' She smiled slightly.
In his excitement, he made one wrong comment 'Is that a man I see in your pants? 'Cause it sure looks like me, and I'm moving in.' He cursed himself silently for messing it up. She rose up from her chair, with a disgusted expression on her face. 'James Potter, I can't believe you!' With that she gathered her books, and strolled up the stairs to the girls dormitory, just as Sirius, Lupin and Wormtail came down the boys staircase.
'Oi!' Sirius called. James grinned at him. 'How did it go with Evans?' A few students turned to stare. 'Sirius, quiet.' Lupin muttered. 'Not too bad,' he said, punching Sirius lightly on the shoulder. 'I think I messed up the last one, though.' Wormtail gave a little laugh, and said 'Better luck tomorrow, eh?'
Author's Note: Eh, I hope you like this story. My friend Cameron was telling me some cheesy pick-up lines, so I decided 'what the heck' and remembered that James had always liked Lily and had tried several times to win her over. So here it is.
