"Right, we're leaving now" Yelled Mal after his crew. The hatch was just about ready to close when suddenly they heard shooting.

"The hell is that." Said Jayne as he walked over to the hatch while loading his favorite gun.

"It's just some people shooting at some one. Can you make out who it is?"

"Naw." Jayne squinted as dust began to settle. He managed to see a figure sprinting across the mounds of dirt in the distance, shooting at invisible snipers.

"I see some one now, but I cant make out much. Looks like he's running backwards. See." Jayne pointed.

Mal looked in the direction that Jayne was pointing at and he saw some one sprinting for the hills in front of Serenity. The person reached the top and ducked suddenly and ran for the bottom again.

Jayne could now make out the person better. "Uh, sir. It terns out that it wasn't a guy running but a girl."

"What?!" Mal looked closer and realized that it was in fact a girl.

"What do we do sir?"

"I expect we help her out." Mal grabbed his gun and yelled at the girl. She turned around, confused, then looked back at the men shooting at her. At that moment, someone shot her and she hit the ground.

Jayne raised his gun, "cover me.". He walked out as he shot round after round at the men on the hills. Mal pulled the trigger the odd time that Jayne missed some one.

Jayne picked up speed and jogged to the girl sprawled on the ground. He checked her pulse and felt a heart beat. He then picked her up, shooting all the while, and carried her back to Serenity.

When he reached the safety of the ship, the hatch closed and they took off. Jayne laid the girl down on a crate as Mal called after Simon.
