Maximum Ride: A Cute Little One-Shot
"Let's get this party started!" Nudge said as she walked in the door. After our recent adventure in Antarctica, the flock and I have been lying low with Dr. Martinez, my mom, and Ella, my sister. I'll never admit it to the rest of the flock, but I kind of like being together as a family. It's nice having this one constant after so many variables. I really enjoy spending time with them, and tonight was movie night.
The rest of the flock argued what DVD to put in first while Fang and I set up the snacks. I was trying to open a bag of Fritos when it practically exploded in my hands. The bag popped and chips flew everywhere. I looked up from the remains of the bag and saw Fang trying to suppress a smirk. The Fang equivalent of cracking up.
"What are you laughing at?" I asked, trying to hide the embarrassment on my cheeks.
"Nothin," he said as he handed me a super-size bag of M&Ms, still smirking,
"Shut up," I teased as I flicked a Frito at him.
"Ready when you are," Iggy announced after the flock finally decided on a DVD. The Princess Bride, despite Gazzy and Iggy's arguments. I really needed to have that talk with Angel soon.
"Ok," I called back. I grabbed the bowls of snacks and headed to the living room.
When I got to the living room, I place the snacks on the end table and plopped myself in the middle of the couch with a bowl of popcorn in my lap. The rest of the flock found spots on the floor, closest to the action, and unfurled their wings a little bit to relax. Fang sat next to me.
The movie started. About a half hour later I was starting to get tired. I rested my head on Fang's shoulder and began to drift off, every-once-in-a-while coming back into consciousness and feeling Fang's hand stroking my hair.
Some time later, the movie ended. I heard the flock get up and mumble something.
"Max," Nudge said. I could hear her light footsteps coming towards me. "Max?"
"Shhh," Fang said softly. Nudge stopped dead in her tracks. "Get the others to bed. I'll take care of Max."
"Okay," Nudge whispered. She quietly shuffled the rest of the flock out of the room.
Fang slowly lifted my head off his shoulder and gently laid me down on the couch. I shifted to a more comfortable position and felt Fang freeze up, startled. When it looked like I was settled again, he silently moved across the living room, found a blanket, and came back to gently place it on me. I shifted again, but this time he didn't freeze. He leaned over, kissed my forehead, and started to leave the room.
"'Night, Fang," I said, startling him. I propped myself up on one arm and weakly held out my fist.
I could feel him smiling as he walked back to the couch. We stacked fists and he leaned over again, tilted my chin up, and kissed me. "'Night, Max," he said and left the room.
