I don't know why a Christmas oneshot popped itself into my head…but here it is anyway! Enjoy as an early DS x-mas present!

He saw it. A quick glance up; it was there, just above them. How could she not see it? Why won't she say it's there?

She saw it with a quick glance up when Danny had not been paying attention. That mistletoe had created such indecision in her. Mention it and get a kiss from him. Just an innocent traditional kiss.

She'd love it, and that was why she couldn't tell him. He hadn't seen it, and he wouldn't even notice it was just hanging above them. She could walk away and he wouldn't have known. She wouldn't have to worry about overreacting.

Danny waited. He was too afraid to mention that they were standing beneath that plastic portrayal of leaves and berries. She had noticed it, he was sure now, but having not pointed it out…did this mean she did not want to kiss him? Had the impression he'd been getting from her just a hopeful bleep of imagination on his part?

Sam made some excuse, Danny wasn't even sure what she had said, and then she had left. Danny moved away from the now accursed mistletoe also, disappointed and not wanting to be forced to kiss some other girl at this Christmas party.

The party was long over, but Sam was still in the room staring into space. She had regretted her previous fear; she should have just kissed him. Now here she was, in her parents' ballroom, sitting in a random chair drowning in that regret and, from that, disappointment.

She looked up at the whole reason for her new found depression.

Sighing, Sam let her head hang for a while.

"Sam?"

The word was whispered softly from across the room. She figured it was one of her parents' servants—she never thought of them as hers—just wanting to know if she was okay. "Go away," came the tired response.

The person disobeyed and came closer, about halfway from where he or she had originally stood. Her name was whispered once again, tenderly this time rather than worried.

"I said—" she looked up and found someone she hadn't expected to be there.

Danny Phantom tilted his head as two twin rings of light changed him to Danny Fenton.

"What's wrong?" he wondered.

"Nothing."

Not looking like he believed her, he said, "Can you come here?"

She shrugged, taking any excuse to be near him, and did so.

A grin, nervous and goofy at the same time, spread on his face. "Sammy? Look up."

And she did. A small gasp escaped her lips as she saw it, saw the mistletoe once more. She then looked at him, finding that as her face felt warm a blush was also accompanying the smile on his face. "Danny?" she wondered. It was obvious now that he had planned this.

"I let the opportunity go by last time," was his answer.

Before she could process the fact that he had seen the mistletoe at the earlier party, she felt him kiss her—just simply pressing his lips against hers. It was gone almost an instant later.

He had taken a step back, hopefully looking at her face for a reaction.

A too-happy grin threatened to appear, but Sam fought it down for a minute. "So did I," she said. As she started to lose the fight, she leaned forward and gave him the same kiss. When they parted, both smiled.

Danny nodded, not trusting himself to utter a word. Still grinning, he transformed and left.

Sam smiled, unable not to now, and for once was happy that her parents had a Christmas party every year.

I know Sam doesn't celebrate Christmas, but I figured her parents would have a party anyway. Review!
