Happy Christmas to You
-she just knew it-
She swiftly tied her apron on, patting the red fabric down, her brown waves settled high on her head in a bun. The sun hadn't rose yet, but the oven was blaring and the kitchen lights were beating down on her, and it was time to start work.
She had never done this before, and the nerves were beginning to set in. It has been so easy back at the Black manor, with all the house elves, but here, in their cramped, one-bedroom flat, she had to make it herself, by herself. That scared her.
The radio was turned on to fill the silence, and she tried to make herself hum happily along to it as she worked. Pots and pans were pulled out of the cupboards, and she lined them up on the small table, from smallest to largest. She began peeling vegetables, wincing when she nicked her finger.
Gods, why was she so nervous!
It was just Christmas lunch, for Merlin's sake. Lunch with Ted's parents and Ted's sister, lunch in which she had to make a good impression.
A Black always made a good first impression.
And even though she might have been kicked out of the Black manor for fraternising with a dirty Muggle, the lessons she had been taught were still etched in her brain.
"Never ever make a bad impression. Always be polite and a good hostess. Make small talk but never ever ask any personal questions. And Andromeda, remember we have to uphold the Black name at all cost."
She shook her head. That was in the past, right? She wasn't ruled by her family, or her family's name anymore, she could her own person now.
The oven dinged, making her jump. She shook her head softly, wiping all the memories from her mind. Ted was her family now, and he expected nothing less than she was willing to give.
It would be a Happy Christmas, she just knew it.
