A/N: Thanks for clicking on my story ^-^. This is my first one, so reviews and critiques would be appreciated!
Backstory:
Ly is Pema and Tenzin's first daughter. She was conceived just after they were engaged. She is seventeen years old. She is of average hight with long dark brown hair. Unlike the rest of her family, she inherited her grandmother Katara's deep blue eyes. When she was 13, she left Air Temple Island to study airbending at the three ancient air temples. She became a master when she was 16. When she was teaching at the Southern Air Temple, she heard news of Avatar Korra's airbending training in Republic City. She rode her flying bison, Uppi (pronounced "OO-pee"), back home so that she could join her father in training the avatar.
Prologue: Return to Republic City
(story begins around episode 5)
It's nighttime when I reach the city. I am greeted by the lights I had left behind so long ago. It feels comforting to see them again. I have finally returned home.
When I heard that the avatar was in Republic City, I traveled to the South Pole to see if the rumors were true. After a brief stay with my grandmother, Katara, I prepared myself and Uppi for the long journey home.
From what I've heard on my grandmother's radio, Korra has joined a probending team, and they are steadily progressing to the championship.
From the back of my flying bison, I can see the arena. Judging from the crowds, there must be a match tonight. Maybe if I can get in there, I can see Korra before I have to turn in for the night.
"Yip yip!" I direct Uppi towards Air Temple Island. The guards don't notice anything strange about our arrival due to the abundance of bison circling the island. After we land, grab my glider from Uppi's saddle and take off towards the arena.
When I reach an open window, I release my glider and tumble to the floor. I pick up myself and my staff and start moving through the long corridor I've landed in. I almost fall to floor again when I'm jostled by a small group of boys in uniforms and padding.
"Sorry!" says the boy with the green markings on his uniform, "our match is about to start!"
The group hurries through a door on my right. From the opening I can hear the deafening cheers and applause from the spectators. I rush through the door to find myself on a small balcony overlooking the stage.
Even though the match has only just started, the players on the opposite side have already been pushed to the edge of the platform. The waterbender on the winning team darts forward, hurling a large jet of water at his opponents. He knocks two of them off the stage, while the earthbender who acknowledged me earlier sent the last one flying off as well.
"AND ANOTHER FLAWLESS VICTORY FOR THE WOLFBATS!" a charismatic voice booms through the arena, "THAT PUTS THEM THROUGH TO THE NEXT ROUND OF THE CHAMPIONSHIP TOURNAMENT!"
The waterbender removes his helmet to reveal his dark wavy hair. He waves to his fans as he turns to walk back towards the balcony. His expression is a mix of triumph and snide satisfaction.
"HEY! Who are you and what are you doing here?"
I jump at the sudden noise behind me. I spin around to deliver my excuse (I was looking for the bathroom), but instead of the arena guard I was expecting to see, I find myself face to face with Avatar Korra herself.
