Summary: My first fanfiction which I originally wrote in the LiveJournal batfic contest "Theme 102: Character". Enjoy!
A person of warmth
As the snow burst in billows through the cracked window, Victor Fries closed his eyes lightly as Nora's snow globe played so gently, bringing that pained, yet sweet memory back...
"Why do you always sit alone?"
He jumps up, looks sharply behind to see her, in all her beauty and glory. He says nothing, merely staring at her, shocked that she approached him. Then he looks down, and reveals his truth that has always existed for him...
"There is no point in being concerned. Especially when others have not been in the past, why should you?"
And then she speaks.
"Because you remind me of myself when I was younger."
He looks on in absolute shock and though those gentle, glacier blue eyes he sees a past. One filled with pain, not the pain of isolation, but pain that is physical, that leaves scars, bruises...
Nora speaks again, this time, the tears are visible in her voice.
"It was always so difficult, being picked on because of my character. Because I was intelligent and honest, but I've tried my best to never let it fracture the good parts of me. And I don't want you to be ruined as well, because you are so much kinder than any of your peers and..."
It simply breaks off as she starts to unmistakably weep, merely standing there in an amber brown, long coat that now soars in the biting wind like the skirt of a princess, revealing a short, navy skirt with ebony fabric hugging both of her entire legs and dark leather boots, hair of the palest blonde flowing along the currents of the wind, across the palest skin.
There is no more thought or reason now, just him quickly rising up to hold her, one arm around her shoulder, the other cradling her hair and stroking her hair. She eagerly clings to his coat for a while, after which she pulls herself back, smiling though falling tears.
"Thank you so much. I always knew that in spite of everything you've said and done, you always were so kind and you genuinely care for those who love you."
Kind…
Almost at once a teardrop falls on the snow globe as those words spring, before trailing down the edge of it, freezing and cracking due to the temperatures. Victor now looks up, letting the coming tears freeze to his cheeks.
Nora was the only person who had ever brought that kind part of him out, gave him courage… Had anyone else done that? No, they had not. His character meant that only Nora would ever be kind to him, just as her spirit ensured that only he would ever protect and care for her.
Victor was angered for a few moments, and then he glanced apologetically at the snow globe and proceeded to remove the frozen tear that lay upon it. There were only two words that could run inside his head now.
"Forgive me"
