ABBADDON

About Story: Daphne seeks the help of D, her maternal grandfather, when an unknown illness infects her mother and turns her into a killing machine with an unwavering thirst for blood.

Introduction (In the first person):

It seemed just like yesterday when my mother became ill. It was an illness that, at first, caused my mother to have severe epileptic fits and break out in horrible sweats. She would scream out and thrash about which made both my grandmother and I fearful for her life.

I remember vividly how my grandmother, Doris Lang, would sit over my mother and pray for her to not die. No one knew how my mother became ill but what was known is that the illness was very sudden and unrelenting. During her screaming fits, my mother would beg my grandmother to kill her because her whole body felt like it was on fire and her head felt like it was ringing. Grandma did her very best to help mom, but all remedies ended in failure. Prior to this, my mother NEVER suffered from any type of illness…and it was speculated that the reason my mom was so healthy was because a half-vampire man fathered her—a dampir—and thus, inherited his inhuman resistance to common diseases.

After two weeks of the epileptic fits, sweating spells, high fevers, and vomiting, my mother seemed to return to normal…or so we thought. Mom no longer suffered from any of the external symptoms of the unknown illness…but then…the inevitable…happened. Returning home from school, I came upon a horrible site…all the animals on the ranch were drained of blood—every last one of them…and then…I saw my grandmother who was also completely drained of blood. My mother was missing but there was heavy evidence that she was the culprit.

Not waiting to see if my mother would return, I decided to head over to great-uncle's house two towns over. After about two and a half days on foot, I arrived at my great-Uncle's home, where he resided with his wife and their youngest son, and I told him everything that happened. I remember the look on great-Uncle Dan's face when I explained the massacre that took place back on our family ranch.

"You need to find D, your grandfather…" he told me, "D would know what to do…"

"My grandfather? Does he know about me?!" I responded.

Great-Uncle Dan shook his head "no" before responding, "D does not know about you or your mother…my sister was never able contact him after he saved her from the Vampire, Count Magnus Lee."

"How do you know that he would help me? Help us and help mom?" I asked frantically.

At this time, my great-Aunt Barbara entered the room but was quickly told to go in the other room by my great-Uncle before he returned his attention to me, "D is a vampire hunter, it is his job to take care of things…like this," he told me sullenly.

"But mom is NOT a vampire…she is only a quarter…barely enough to be considered one!" I cried.

"Daphne, your mom still has vampire blood flowing through her veins and from what you told me, she is highly dangerous. D must be found and your mother must be…" he trailed off.

I watched as my great-Uncle wept, "oh Doris…I am so sorry that this happened to you. I wish that I knew sooner about Aurelia's illness."

I looked down at the mention of my mother's name; Aurelia…

After regaining his composure, Uncle Dan reiterated that I HAD to find my estranged grandfather, Vampire Hunter D, and I adamantly agreed. After the conversation, I was given provisions to aid me in my quest to seek out D.

That was two weeks ago, and I still feel like I am no closer to finding my grandfather…wish me luck.
