Title:Safe
Word Count: 478
Pairing: Dr Isles x Det. Rizzoli
Requested: Anonymous
Prompt: See, she's safe, just like I promised

Jane Rizzoli feels her heart thudding in her chest, waiting to break out from behind her ribcage. Her brain is pounding in her head and she's short of breath.

Regardless, she stalks down the corridor, stride long and determined. A few nurses and a doctor try to stop her but that fails and then they try to keep up with her pace but fail and eventually fall away.

Normally Jane wouldn't use her badge to gain access to restricted areas, but these aren't normal circumstances and so she simply holds up her BPD ID and badge and carries on until she comes to the emergency room.

Jane has to see her, see whether she's okay or not. Jane, can't lose her…

Jane's been informed she's being treated in room one and the detective doesn't stop until she gets to the door. Her gaze roams the room… until they land on Maura and Jane feels slight relief settle in her chest.

And then…

Jane notes the cut above Maura's right eye and her split lip and the rage rises in Rizzoli once again.

With determined steps Jane makes her way toward Maura, coming to a stop only once she's within touching distance. Jane waits until Maura turns to look at her and Jane can't resist when Maura stands from her seated position, hugs Jane and offers her a dimpled smile. Jane doesn't wait a second more, cups Maura's cheeks and fuses her mouth to Maura's, kissing her as if Jane's life depended on it.

Jane's heart soars, when Maura responds, banding her arms around Jane's back, pulling her closer.

Jane feels Maura break away at the sound of a wolf-whistle and can't help the laugh that escapes her. Maura doesn't pull away though, leans her forehead against Jane's.

"God Maura, I thought I lost you," Jane tells her.

"You didn't, she's still here Detective Rizzoli" the officer who was supposed to be protecting her tells Jane.

Jane doesn't even realize what she's done, just the blinding pain in her hand and Maura's surprised gasp.

"Jane, are you crazy? You can't just go around punching people in the face," Maura admonishes Jane.

"He was supposed to be protecting you Maura, I trusted him to protect the one thing I love the most, and he didn't," the anger seeps through.

There's a pronounced silence, and Jane replays the words in her head.

Oh…

Oh shit…

"Jane," it's barely a whisper, but your eyes snap up to meet hers.

"Take me home," Maura tells Jane, and the detective does.

Jane's barely closed the door behind her when Maura whirls around and presses herself into Jane, Jane's back hitting the door, trapped between Maura and a hard place. And then Maura's kissing Jane and it blows Jane's mind and it's hotter than anything Jane's ever experienced before, and it leaves the detective breathless.

"I love you too, Jane," Maura says when she breaks away.
