Challenges

A friend of mine suggested, after reading my latest fic 'Challenges', which was a group of oneshots, that I should post them separately. I'd like to apologise in advance for spamming you inbox with old fics, for those that have already read these, but I thought it sensible to take her advice. After all, the oneshots I'm writing are very different from each other with random pairings and genres and plots. Anyway, for those reading this for the first time, I hope you enjoy.

I'm much happier with how this one turned out. I hope you enjoy it too, Minty! Thank you to Chrissy and VTM or your feedback on this one, too.

Scissors Wink

Ivankof found him on the streets. She didn't know how he got there and didn't particularly care. He needed help, so she gave it. She wasn't a particularly generous person, buts he saw something good in him that day.

She found out after a hot meal and a warm bath that he had a bit of a drinking problem and liked his wine just a little too much. He seemed nice enough, and by the end of the night, she found out his name. Inazuma. It had a nice ring to it.

She had work in the morning and had to be up early, so she showed him to the spare room. She warned him in advance, that she knew every single item in this house and was not as weak as he may think. If she were to find something missing, then he would be sorry. She didn't think he doubted her sincerity in the matter.

Running your own salon was hard work, and good workers were hard to find. 'Iva-chan's' was pretty well known since opening last month, but Ivankof still needed more custom. Not wanting to leave him home alone, she offered Inazuma work at her Salon, cleaning up hair cuttings and keeping things in order. He cleaned up nicely in his work uniform, and his silent and stoic presence was a comfort, keeping away any bad customers.

She paid him a wage of course, and showed no surprise when he came home with a bottle of wine or two. She didn't reprimand him, and instead joined him, toasting to their sure future success. He didn't smile, but she had a feeling he was happy.

How she found his talent was a total accident. She had requested him to make a couple of posters by hand, to which she could photocopy to advertise the salon. She had been massaging a customer when she glanced over and saw him slicing away with the scissors. It was almost mesmerising.

Less than a week later, he was promoted to hairdresser. The title was a little feminine, but he didn't seem to mind. They worked side by side now, and as word got around, custom increased. Pretty soon they were packed out. He watched her often, but she pretended not to notice.

He was drinking less now, but still enjoyed a few glasses of wine through the day. Sometimes she joined him, toasting anything around them. Sometimes, he smiled.

A few weeks later, she changed the salon's name. It was no longer just hers, so she took something from him, and something from her and renamed it 'Scissors Wink'. She passed a comment about the salon kind of representing their baby together. She thought she saw him blush, but he took a sip from his wine glass to cover it.

More time passed and fleeting looks became mutual. Their popularity as a salon skyrocketed with Inazuma's cutting edge styles and Ivankof's legendary beauty therapy. Each night they toasted to their success and their bond that seemed to quietly grow with time.
