"Ah!" the voice said in my ear. I was visibly shaking, what if James was right, what if I was a Slytherin? Dad had been ok about it and said that the hat takes my requests into account but what if I was too evil to be a Gryffindor? Sure I'm cunning and manipulative but everyone who's grown up with two siblings and multiple cousins has got to be! But even if Dad was ok about it, Mum might just get over it but Uncle George and Uncle Ron would be furious, along with the rest of my family! How could I still be friends with Rose and Fred? And I'm a Potter! Everyone says that I'm the spitting image of Dad without the scar and glasses. I have my Grandma's piercing green eyes and my Grandad's untameable jet black hair. I can't possibly be a Slytherin!
"A Potter, eh? But strange, you show a lot of the qualities you're father possessed and he too would have made a very good Slytherin!" the hat said.
"NO! Dad said that you'd take my requests into consideration! I want to be a Gryffindor or my family will disown me!" I thought in desperation.
"You're strong enough to get over that. You hate your family getting all the spotlight and everyone expecting you to be like your father! You'd want to be noticed but are afraid people won't understand, I simply can't overlook those Slytherin attributes."
"You can! But how do you know these things?" I asked.
"I know everything about you; I know that you belong in Slytherin!"
"NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO, NO!" I started shouting inside my head fighting the hat's voice.
The hat now spoke to the whole hall. "SLYTHERIN!" it shouted.
My heart pounded against my chest as my family gave me ice cold looks, Rose and James looked completely disgusted and the whole hall including the teachers were in a state of shock which matched my utter confusion. The Slytherin table gave a polite round of applause but no one else moved. I thought I should so I got up, and lifted my chin up high. If I had to deal with this I was at least going to do so with some dignity. I walked over and sat down next to the boy that Uncle Ron had specifically told me not to get friendly with; Scorpius Malfoy. It was well known Potters and Malfoys didn't get on. But it wasn't well known for a Potter to be in Slytherin either. I inspected Scorpius to find his resemblance to his father uncanny. He had a head of blonde hair, which matched his pale skin and icy blue eyes.
He sniffed at me. "What?" I asked.
"What are you doing here, you're a Potter!" he said.
"Well done for noticing! Nice to meet you too!" I said using my fluency in sarcasm.
"My father said that I shouldn't get involved with your lot. Why aren't you in Gryffindor?" he asked looking me up and down.
"I don't know! I'm just as surprised as everyone else. My uncle said I shouldn't get involved with Malfoys! But I suppose I'm going to have to! He'll already be angry enough that I'm in Slytherin! I'll be disowned by tomorrow morning. So, seeing as were going to have to spend another seven years together I think we should put our parent's differences behind and be mature about this!" I offered politely, ignoring the looks I was still getting from what seemed like the whole of Hogwarts. I couldn't help the fact that I was a Slytherin and people were just going to have to live with it.
"How do I know that I can trust you?" Malfoy asked still looking at me.
"You can't. I'm a Slytherin." I replied.
Malfoy let out a small chuckle. "You know what; you're ok for a Potter!"
"And you're ok for a Malfoy!" I replied.
You know, Slytherin didn't seem that bad…
