Lemonade
"Eww! Sasuke-kun! How can you drink that?" asked a shrill voice.
Sasuke looked up and saw Ino standing in front of him, her nose wrinkled in disgust. Sasuke's eyes narrowed out of pure irritation. He looked back down at his drink.
Ino sat down across from him and began to twirl a piece of her blonde hair. "Sasuke-kun, lemonade looks like pee in a cup," she said, matter-of-factly.
Sasuke glared up at her. Ino sighed and looked at him with a pitying look. "Are you saying that you don't mind being seen drinking what looks like pee?"
"I don't care what it looks like," Sasuke finally said. Ino was taken aback by the coldness of Sasuke's voice.
"Err . . . Then why do you drink it? Doesn't the sourness bother you?" Ino asked in a less demanding tone than usual.
Sasuke continued glaring, but shook his head. "I like the way it tastes," he admitted. Ino blinked and nodded.
They sat in silence for a couple minutes. After a while, Ino broke the silence with another question. "But, why such a small cup, I thought you liked the stuff?" Ino asked, cocking her head to the side, letting her ponytail drape over her shoulder.
Sasuke shrugged. "It's better in small doses," he replied, running a hand through his dark hair.
Ino blinked, once again, confused. "You're weird Sasuke-kun. If I were drinking my favourite drink, I'd get lots!" she exclaimed.
Sasuke repeated his earlier motion, and shrugged. That's when a small frown crossed Ino's face.
"But . . . Sasuke-kun? Why are you drinking lemonade right now? It's the middle of December!" she asked.
Sasuke smirked. "Because, after the summer, everyone seems to forget about it, which only makes drinking it now even better," Sasuke replied, the smirk not leaving its position on his face. "It seems rather lonely in the winter."
"Lonely? But . . . only living things can feel loneliness . . ." Ino thought about her sentence, and her jaw slowly dropped, as she let out a small gasp. She just found out why she could never seem to win the heart of the rather stoic boy. "Sasuke-kun . . . You . . . don't mean . . . ?"
Sasuke's smirk broadened into something that was almost a smile. Ino's eyebrows shot up in amazement.
"N-Now . . . That . . . wow . . . So Naruto . . . ?" Ino couldn't even string together a sentence. She continued to stare at Sasuke, her eyes wide.
"YO! TEME!" called a rather high pitched voice.
Both Ino's and Sasuke's heads snapped towards the direction of the voice. They saw Naruto standing there, a red scarf draped over his shoulder. There was an orange hat on his head, covering his mess of blonde hair. In one of his gloved hands there was a poorly made snowball.
"Sasuke! You promised you'd have a snowball fight with me!" he yelled. Sasuke muttered something under his breath, stood up, adjusted his scarf, and began to walk towards Naruto.
Ino smiled as Sasuke walked away, knowing exactly why he put up with Naruto, because, well, Naruto was a lot like lemonade.
My attempt at symbolism.
Interesting turnout.
I like Ino.
