OFC I had to do Zutara week These will all be pretty short, as I don't have much time each day, but oh well. The song I'm listening to- Sound of Silence by Simon & Garfunkel
The only thing I'm changing from canon is the Kataang kiss at the finale.
Melancholy
It was quiet down by the water, save for the sound of the waves that were slowly reaching for the shore. Katara sat cross-legged with her eyes closed, just past the top reaches of the water. She was in her element, literally and figuratively. It was the full moon, so her power was strongest. This was the night that she was usually the most at peace, the most calm, but tonight, well…something was wrong. Not with her powers, but with her emotions.
Just yesterday, Aang, Toph, Sokka and Katara left the newly crowned Zuko in the Fire Nation, and were headed back to their homes. Aang was going to be staying in the Earth Kingdom with Toph, until she could become the official ambassador between the Fire and Earth Nations. Katara and Sokka knew it had been far too long since they had seen Gran-Gran, and, though it pained them to do so, were due to part with their friends within the week.
Judging by the information, Katara had every right to be melancholic. Unfortunately for her, though, she knew that her forlorn feeling didn't stem from the separation of Toph and Aang.
She just wasn't admitting it to herself.
She squeezed her eyes and clenched her fists.
Small shards of ice formed in the water.
A lone tear fell from her eyes, and landed silently on her thigh.
She sighed, and rose from her watery haven. She knew that she could no longer dwell on this toxic subject, and turned to go back to her tent. Maybe she could get some sleep tonight.
She knew it wasn't likely.
Zuko knew sleep tonight wasn't likely.
Although it was past midnight, he was wide awake, which was strange as it was a full moon.
But he thought he knew what was troubling him this time.
He groaned, rose out of bed, and made his was slowly down to one of the ponds in the Royal Gardens. Just yesterday, he had watched Katara waterbend at this exact spot…
He groaned again and rumbled his hair. This obsession of his was getting out of hand.
He slumped down on the ground and buried his face in his hands.
He wished she didn't have to leave.
He wished he could've told her how he felt.
He wished…well…it was too late.
He sighed again, and then was silent.
It was quiet down by the water, save for the sound of the ripples from the wind that were slowly reaching for the edge of the pond.
