AN: For Snarry 100 Challenge 387: Back to Basics . If this looks better later, then thank Yen.
Crimson Mage - I'll answer your questions here, but if you would get an account then I could easily reply to you. I would like the opportunity to. ^-^ 1- I like it and find it challenging to keep to a specific word count, even though I may whine. Snarry-100 is a drabble community in LJ, IJ, DW that give a weekly challenge to write on a specific theme. That is why the tales are broken up into small pieces. Each section is 100 words.
2- Not mad, behind and had some free time on my hands. So, I did a brain dump.
3 -More than one chapter hard? *smirks* No, dear, I don't. More that 50k words, yes. I doubt I will ever break 100k, but multiple chapters are a fact of bunnies.

Proving oneself
Harry settled back into his chair, his cup balanced carefully. "I don't know what I want to do."
Severus pushed himself higher up on the pillows. "Potter," his partially healed voice cracked slightly. "you've barely learned the basics of your education, much less the Wizarding world."
The dark eyes held Harry's attention for longer than they should have. In them he could detect a warming, an appreciation that was never there. "I know more than the basics of magic."
"True, you can cast very complicated spells, but your base is weak. That can get you killed in the field."
(o.o)
Hermione tapped the table top. "It is back to basics for us -we have to finish school."
"The Ministry said.."
Harry cut Ron off. "No, we are not going to ride on the wings of fame. I refuse to become exactly what Snape always said I was."
Ron leaned forward. "This is different mate -you earned that waiver."
Harry remembered his last visit with Snape. The attraction was still there, one he had been fighting for years, but this time it seemed to be on both sides. He had to prove that he could earn his place without heroics.
