Chapter 1: The Beginning

Batman stood looking out of the watchtower's window. He was staring at one particular spot on the globe. Gotham. Although it wasn't actually visible from the high orbit, Batman had memorized its precise location. Occasionally another member of the league would try to talk to him, but Batman wouldn't budge. Everyone knew why he was acting this way, but no one was either brave enough or stupid enough to bring it up.

Eventually Superman walked up to Batman. "Bruce, it wasn't your fault. There was nothing you could've done differently." Batman responded with a grunt. Superman continued. "From your report it sounded like you were forced to do it, for the safety of the planet." Batman finally responded, "I killed the Joker. It doesn't matter if I was forced to or not. It doesn't matter that he was already technically dead. I killed the Cyber-Joker. That's what matters." With that Batman returned to his brooding.

Superman turned to leave when alarms started blaring across the watchtower. Batman spun around, and leaped towards the radar panel. He took a glance at the panel. It was covered with dots, indicating a large fleet of ships. Batman rushed off to the adjoining room. Superman followed him slowly, not entirely sure what Batman was doing.

Batman was activating the communications network, acting almost frantically. He finally made contact. "Unidentified alien ships, please identify yourselves." As the pair of heroes waited for a response, a scarlet blur raced into the room. "Hey guys, what's up?" The Flash asked. As soon as the words left his mouth, the viewscreen flickered to life. On it, was an armor-plated dome, with a long eyestalk on the front, and two diodes on top.

"Identify yourselves." Batman demanded. The creature responded with a high pitched voice, which sounded like it was eternally screaming. "We are the Daleks. Prepare to be exterminated."
